okmijn22 Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 I have a Netgear Router and a Siemens SpeedStream (4200) modem. From research, the modem is working as a router and I think that is why I cannot port forward. ( I already have but doesn't work.) Also from my research, someone mentioned to me about bridging the modem but I am not sure how?If you know, please post.Greatly appreciated.
GTHK Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 This help? http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,12998125 Also for bridging, if the modem has PPPoA/PPPoE enabled then you will have to enable it on the Netgear and if required by your ISP enter a user and pass for it (if not using DSL/ADSL you can most likely disregard this). As for port forwarding, if your using two routers, in this case you would need to check the Netgears WAN IP address and use that for forwarding in the router above it. The address used to access the Netgear is the LAN IP address, to get the WAN IPa you would go into the Netgear, find a status page of sorts labeled Internet/WAN, and find IP address.
okmijn22 Posted December 24, 2008 Author Report Posted December 24, 2008 Hi. I just realized my modem is provide by Bell Canada which locks their firmware... So I cannot bridge. Is there an alternative method for port forwarding? Thanks
