Speeds are <1kB/s and don't understand why

Geodizzle

Recommended Posts

Ok so I've tried EVERYTHING that has been suggested, and searched for similar topics before

posting this, and it looks like the problems went unresolved which is disappointing...

I did the speed tests recommended (I did it five times and took an average of the upload speed.

Results:

Download: 800-1000 kbps

Upload: 334.6 kbps

Following instructions, I set my preferences as follows:

Max upload speed: 22kB/s

Max global connections: 130

Max connections per torrent: 70

Slots: 3

Protocol Encryption enabled

Max active torrents: 2

Max Downloads: 2

I changed all settings according to Ultima's suggestions in 'SLOW/INTERRUPTED INTERNET CONNECTION

OR OFFLINE TRACKERS' and tried all suggestions in 'SLOW TRANSFER SPEEDS'

Downloading the openoffice.org test file was just as slow as everything else. Port forwarding is

fine, the symbol is always green (until it changes to red and then I check my new IP and forward

the port again. I'm using 21367).

ISP: BTInternet (who are awful) so I guess they are limiting my bandwidth?

Router: Netgear DG834

It looks like files can't be attached to a post so I'm pasting this stuff right in here.

Thanks,

I simply copy and pasted those logs... no idea why they are damaged or why you cant read them etc.

So basically the answer here is... live with it? I've had BTinternet for a while now, and this problem is fairly recent. Surely there is something I haven't tried yet... problems like this don't crop up for no reason... there must be something

Wordwrap was probably turned off.

If your ISP blanket-throttles (or blocks!) any non-HTTP traffic, you are pretty much screwed...and sadly I fear BT Central ADSL ISP in the UK does that.

But before giving up, try:

Or...worst-case scenario...this:

Ah, thanks for the suggestion.

Last night however, I realised that I forgot to do one key thing after changing all my settings etc. I didn't restart my router, so I didn't see the changes take effect (silly me, sorry). So after I did, I was getting speeds over 300kBs. Wonderful!

One thing though: If both my max active torrents and max active downloads are set to two, that not only means that I will only be able to download two things at once, but that when downloading, I am not seeding. Should I just tweak these numbers a little to allow more torrents to be active without diminishing my speed too much??
