lostmind3618
I'm experiencing speed drops on certain torrents. When downloading from the OpenOffice.org, Slackware Linux, or Ubuntu Linux torrents specified in the SLOW TRANSFER SPEEDS post, everything works fine, and I reach over 1MBps, but some other torrents won't get passed 50-60kBps, and will often randomly drop all the way down to .5-2kBps, fluctuating in between. When I run a torrent that runs fine then startup one of the problematic torrents, it affects the speed of both of the downloads, occasionally bringing them both down to the .5-2kBps range. This also affects the rest of my internet connection. Using cmd.exe ping google.com -t as sort of a benchmark for whats going on, this is what it looks like when the download speeds drop, and I'd say it happens once or twice a minute:Reply from 74.125.45.100: bytes=32 time=671ms TTL=55Reply from 74.125.45.100: bytes=32 time=557ms TTL=55Reply from 74.125.45.100: bytes=32 time=609ms TTL=55Reply from 74.125.45.100: bytes=32 time=709ms TTL=55Reply from 74.125.45.100: bytes=32 time=728ms TTL=55Reply from 74.125.45.100: bytes=32 time=669ms TTL=55Request timed out.General failure.General failure.General failure.Reply from 74.125.45.100: bytes=32 time=105ms TTL=55Reply from 74.125.45.100: bytes=32 time=98ms TTL=55Could I get someone to elaborate on this comment from the SLOW TRANSFER SPEEDS post?"(If any of them run quickly, then the problems you're experiencing likely lie only with the swarm)"It's definitely not something I experience with all torrents, but a good number of them. I've tried everything in the IF YOU HAVE SPEED ISSUES READ HERE FIRST post except for patching TCPIP.sys. I'm using Windows 7, and before udpating my lan driver, I was getting IRQL_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL BSOD's instead of the connection drops. I'm open to the idea that it could be a hardware/driver problem, but I'd like to hear other possible solutions as well. I've also ran the Glasnost ISP throttling test, and I pass it fine. Switeck
What lousy networking hardware and software are you using?(So I know not to use it myself! )
lostmind3618
Is that really the best response I can get out of a moderator? I'm using a Realtek RTL8101E 10/100 LAN which has never given me any problems before, on a windows 7 64-bit clean install. uTorrent alone installed. Switeck
lostmind3618,Is that the best response of a new user...complain about problems then leave out any information that might be able to help us help you solve it?Realtek LAN cards have been implicated in BSoD crashes before. lostmind3618
I'm not getting BSoDs anymore, I wrote that in my post. Can you at least answer my question about having a problem within the swarm? What could cause me to have problems with some torrents and not others? Switeck
If your LAN card is still having disconnections, all bets are off.I am not one to speculate on exactly why known bad hardware only fails "sometimes".
