matilda242
Since I upgraded to 2.0 my system has been freezing whenever uTorrent is running, within about five minutes of using it my laptop simply does not respond to anything. The only way to reboot is to physically remove the battery. I'm using Vista 32-bit and Kaspersky Internet Security 10. I'm connected by ethernet to the internet in a network for halls of residence. Is anyone else having this problem? any suggestions? here's a hijackthis just in case it's needed.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 11:30:09, on 18/03/2010Platform: Windows Vista SP2 (WinNT 6.00.1906)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6002.18005)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\Windows\system32\Dwm.exeC:\Windows\system32\taskeng.exeC:\Windows\Explorer.EXEC:\Windows\System32\mobsync.exeC:\Windows\RtHDVCpl.exeC:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\SmoothView\SmoothView.exeC:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\FlashCards\TCrdMain.exeC:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\Utilities\KeNotify.exeC:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\ConfigFree\NDSTray.exeC:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exeC:\Program Files\Apoint2K\Apoint.exeC:\Windows\System32\igfxtray.exeC:\Windows\System32\hkcmd.exeC:\Windows\System32\igfxpers.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Java\Java Update\jusched.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exeC:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TOSCDSPD\TOSCDSPD.exeC:\Windows\ehome\ehtray.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmpnscfg.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Nikon\Monitor\NkMonitor.exeC:\Windows\ehome\ehmsas.exeC:\Windows\system32\igfxsrvc.exeC:\Program Files\Apoint2K\ApMsgFwd.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exeC:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\ConfigFree\CFSwMgr.exeC:\Program Files\Apoint2K\Apntex.exeC:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exeC:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Internet Security 2010\klwtblfs.exeC:\Windows\system32\NOTEPAD.EXEC:\Program Files\uTorrent\uTorrent.exeC:\Windows\system32\SearchFilterHost.exeC:\Windows\system32\msfeedssync.exeC:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exeR1 - moogly
How many antivirus do you have? I see some remains of Symantec. Do you use Norton?
matilda242
i used to use norton yes, but i thought i had removed it completely. could this be contributing?editremoving symantec LiveUpdate (change/uninstall in programs and features) brings up the following message "We have determined that you still have some symantec applications registered with LiveUpdate. you should not remove LiveUpdate unless all symantec applications have been removed first". on my programs list, LiveUpdate is the only symantec published program, so should i just ignore this? HimandHer
I was having the same problems lately with freezing every few mins, so I just put in the older version of utorrent back in and now everything is working fine,... so right now, it looks like whatever was changed in ver 2.0 might be the culprit *fingers crossed it stays ok*
jyankk
I have the exact same problem. I'm using Vista 32 and uTorrent 18620, which I just upgraded to as it kept popping up telling me it was strongly recommended (I didn't have the problem before 18620). As soon as I open uTorrent my laptop begins to slow down and once its fully loaded everything runs at a crawl. If I'm listening to music/watching a video it will begin to stutter, the mouse will start moving slow and everything in general just gets slow. Once I close uTorrent the problem goes away. I ran scans with AVG and MalwareBytes/Super Anti Spyware but it found nothing. I have also completely uninstalled uTorrent and reinstalled but the problem persisted. moogly
Can you turn off "bandwidth management' in Preferences > BitTorrent?
matilda242
i downloaded an older version and it doesn't freeze anymore. i'm running pretty slowly however, but i think that's a different problem.
moogly
Ok so now, you are running an unsupported version.
teomor
me *had* this problem also. i think it was caused by bandwidth management being off, coz i set it to off, but i'm not sure.i also think i fixed it by deleting the settings.dat and settings.old.dat in the users/{username}/appdata/roaming/utorrent - this restores the program's default settings (which i messed with a lot).try that! Pelsia
Seems like sometime around one of the 2.0 builds uTorrent became a massive resource pig. When initially started there were no problems, after a few hours its constantly using 25%+ of (all) the cpu's time, and memory around 150k-250k. Whether I've got 1 torrent active or 9 doesn't seem to matter; only app that takes up more resources is Firefox, though with 10-15 tabs open that's no surprise.
