Latency issues

Hey, I was wondering why my downloads have such a difficult time staying in the higher speeds. If I'm downloading 3 or 4 files at once, my d/l speeds will get as high as 8 or 9 Mbps, but suddenly will drop to around 10 kbps for a short time before shooting back up.

I've heard people say to limit your overall connections to keep your router from getting flooded. I have a very good router, but when I limited connections from 200 to 130, my d/l speeds dropped to around 2.5 Mbps tops, which is obviously much slower than I see at 200 connections, and there is still some fluctuation.

Also, could I avoid this issue by using an ethernet cable?

Thank you
