Proxy connect error: Error -9

Using BTGuard Socks5 proxy, I sometimes see this message with certain trackers: "Proxy connect error: Error -9"

Now, I understand it is likely some sort of incompatibility between the tracker and the proxy... but I am curious what exactly this error number signifies.

Anyone know the answer? Or, better yet, have a link to a chart with utorrent/bittorrent error codes?

Thanks

No, it's mostly with HTTP trackers.

Not only did your post fail to answer my question, but is incorrect. BTGuard works with most UDP trackers just fine -- those few that it does not are because those trackers do not support SOCKS5 proxies. Thus, the responsibility to fix is not on BTGuard, but is instead upon the trackers to upgrade/update their tracker software.

1. https://btguard.com/utorrent.php vs https://btguard.com/utorrentold.php

BTGuard's SOCKS5 proxy does support UDP, if the torrent client is up to it. If you don't believe me, feel free to try it yourself. I'm sitting here watching UDP trackers in uTorrent 3 over BTGuard SOCKS5 proxy.

This event is being seen on both, but more HTTP than UDP.

None of this BTGuard UDP nonesense actually answers my question. I am not looking for speculation or misinformed opinions.

I am looking for a technical answer on what exactly "Proxy connect error: Error -9" means. Somewhere in the uTorrent codebase, a specific event is triggering this error message. I would like to know what, as much for edification as for workarounds/fixes.

Thank you.

Proxy connect error specifically means that something happened between you and the proxy, not between the proxy and the tracker.

error code -9 means PROXY_ERR_NETWORK_UNREACHABLE, which indicates your network connection went down or something.

I finally checked back. Thank you for your explanation. I appreciate it...

However, if the problem is between my end and the proxy, I'm confused how some trackers (both HTTP & UDP) can be connected and working fine, and other trackers (both HTTP & UDP) can be giving me the -9 error.

BTGuard does not work with UDP trackers for 90% of the time. BTGuard tells you to turn off UDP tracker support, so NO it doesn't work. If it is on, you get "Network Unreachable" with each one. You are not anonymous with UDP trackers. I also get Error 7 once the torrent is done, and it goes to seeding, when it was working just FINE for the leeching phase, then after the 2nd update, it starts working. I Tmay be BTGuard, it may not be, but if you are going to use it, then you have to put up with this.

IF error code -9 means PROXY_ERR_NETWORK_UNREACHABLE, which you say it indicates your network connection went down "or something." Then why does it only happen on some HTTP trackers, and not the others, CONTINUALLY! It's always the same HTTP tracker, like "http://pow7.com/announce" that gets the error all the time, not at random, so it is not a problem with anyone's network, it is a problem with BTGuard.

BTGuard kind of sucks, and you have to rely on HTTP trackers with them. You set it up like BTGuard says, and hope for the best. I tried to contact them several times, and I kept after it, they refunded my money and suspended the account. They refuse to offer any more support than what they tell you at their site, and apparently, they don't need to. I re-uped my subscription after getting a list of HTTP trackers, and just add them to torrents. The ones that do not work, or don't have the torrent registered, I simply remove that tracker, SIMPLE as that...
