torrentstart Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 I dont mean to sound stupid but i just can't forward any ports. i use portforward.com but i still get a closed port message when i test it... please help me! if you need my compouter info just ask but i might not know how to get some of it.
Ultima Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 http://www.utorrent.com/setup_guide.php <-- read everything here?
torrentstart Posted September 27, 2006 Author Report Posted September 27, 2006 yeah it still makes no sense to me because i'm computer illiterate when it comes to that stuff... can someone go through it step by step for me? please?
Ultima Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 But it is a step-by-step guide... what about it don't you understand? It's fairly easy to understand, IMHO, and uses very basic terms =T
torrentstart Posted September 27, 2006 Author Report Posted September 27, 2006 i am extreme computer illiterate. i can do some things but when i tried to change my settings the icon that tells you about your connection in utorrent disappeared!
Ultima Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 That's okay (the status light disappearing), just continue with reading/following the guide. If you really need someone to guide you, the IRC channel is a much more appropriate medium than this forum.
torrentstart Posted September 30, 2006 Author Report Posted September 30, 2006 Ok, i followed the steps and i test downloaded the slackwave10-2.torrent and i got a dl speed of 400kb/s even with the yellow triangle connection error, but after i start another torrent it goes down to less than 1kb/s. What is happening, and why do i still have the yellow triangle connection thingy?EDITThe yellow triangle changed to the red circle so i forwarded my port, and it changed back to the yellow triangle, i'm now trying to dl a torrent but i'm not getting any seeds (says there is 112 seeds) i'm just getting peer help and my dl speed is from 5-15kb/splease help me! How do i make a good connection?
Ultima Posted September 30, 2006 Report Posted September 30, 2006 What does the Speed Guide's port checker say?
torrentstart Posted September 30, 2006 Author Report Posted September 30, 2006 wtf? it says the port is not open... even though i followed the instructions. Hmmm, maybe i didn't make a static ip, i dunno how to make one.
Ultima Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 http://www.portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm
torrentstart Posted October 1, 2006 Author Report Posted October 1, 2006 ok i did that but i also notice something in the explanation. the picture before step 10 where is says the DNS servers the second last digits are different...216.104.xx.5 while for my computer, the last digits are different...206.47.244.112 and 206.47.244.59. By the way...my connection still doesn't work.
Gatorman Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 Don't feel alone. Mine was working up until Tuesday morning of this week and now won't anymore. What model router are you using?
Ultima Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 Erm... it doesn't matter what the image shows, it's just an example image... whatever you get, you put in the TCP/IP properties dialog, simple. Are you sure you forwarded your ports correctly, and set up the static IP properly? What modem are you using? Router? Firewall?
torrentstart Posted October 1, 2006 Author Report Posted October 1, 2006 ok, time for my info post...:These are my connection settings:IP Address: 192.168.0.101Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1DNS Servers: 206.47.244.112, 206.47.244.59WINS Server: ??(nothing there)Router:D-Link DI524 (i'm connected to it through a router by a cable, not wireless)Firewall: Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0Screenshot of my settings for utorrent:My Static ip setup:i think thats about it... tell me if you need more.
Ultima Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 I still need to know what modem you're using. The rules for utorrent.exe in Kaspersky work, but they're overkill, IMHO. You only need to allow all outboind TCP and UDP, and allow incoming TCP/UDP on the port specified in µTorrent.
torrentstart Posted October 1, 2006 Author Report Posted October 1, 2006 ok the modem is a Motorola speedstream but my dad says that the connection doesn't even go through the modem just through the DI-524 through a dsl connection..or something. BTW its suppose to be a 5mb/s connection or whatever. I also fixed my Kapersky settings.EDITWhat do you mean allowing the tcp/udp port through Kaspersky? you mean the port i forwarded?
Ultima Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 Yep for the Kaspersky thing. DI-524 is not a modem, so you're definitely connected to the modem. Is it a Motorola SurfBoard or Frontiers SpeedStream...?
torrentstart Posted October 1, 2006 Author Report Posted October 1, 2006 a ha! i got a green light!!!! but i still get bad connection speed can you help me with that?i get a good speed with the test torrent, but not with others...EDIT!!Grrrrrrrrrrr it is yellow again, i closed utorrent again then opened it but it went back to a yelow triangleEDIT1ok now it turned into the red circle.......... but i'm still getting 300-400kb/s for the test torrent
Ultima Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 Yello doesn't mean it's a problem... as long as the port is forwarded properly, it doesn't matter. If the other torrents are slow, there's nothing else we can do about it, assuming you already set everything according to the setup guide.Edit: Red... ugh. What does the port checker in µTorrent say? What is the exact model of your modem?
torrentstart Posted October 1, 2006 Author Report Posted October 1, 2006 port checker says port 14520 is not forwarded properly (not open) even though it is!EDITis my static ip configured right? and also i think it said i had to make all my computers on the connection with the same static ip, do i? and how?How do i know my static ip??EDITmy router is D-Link DI-524 Air Plus G 802.11g/2.4GHz wireless routerand i'm not sure how to check my modem, please tell me
DreadWingKnight Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 and also i think it said i had to make all my computers on the connection with the same static ipHow to prevent all your computers from getting online.http://portforward.com/routers.htm
torrentstart Posted October 1, 2006 Author Report Posted October 1, 2006 ?? i already configured my router for my computer, do i have to configure my main one also?EDIThow do i check my static ip? is it my external ip?
Ultima Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 http://www.portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htmAll computers should have different static IP addresses.
torrentstart Posted October 2, 2006 Author Report Posted October 2, 2006 ah ha!!!! i finally figured it out!!! the port checker is allowing my connection!!!! i made my static ip 192.168.0.2 and changed my port forwarding settings!!! and i'm getting a decent connection with a green check!!!!
