Connect to peers faster

As an optional feature (default to off) there should be an option to increase the rate of peer connection. Preferrably BC style where it connects 200 peers all at once, but something faster than a piddly 1 every 1-3 seconds please.

The reason it does this is to be able to connect to more clients that with faster connecting and to prevent bans.

It connects to more than one or two at a time, it just doesn't show you the peer until it reaches the stage before the handshake.

Isn't that what the bt.slow_connect options does? Set it to false and it will try connecting to peers much faster.

First thing I did was to disable that. Still the extremely slow DL rate.

Any of you using Windows XP? If you are, you'd actually get slower connection rates if you did that. XP throttles the number of half-open connections (read: connection attempts). Look through your windows event log some time.

I use XP, but I also used the patch, so I set it to false.

Only Service Pack 2 does this. It throttles it to 10 connection attempts at once and then queues the rest.
