adriantc
Well µTorrent is the best torrent client and I have tested pretty much everything from Azureus to BitComet. Anyway I have this strange problem with it. At very high upload and download speeds (over 1MB/s) when I try to maximize or minimize µTorrent window it keeps crashing. I have tested it as much I can (even the stable release)... I have sent every memory dump...It only happens at high speeds and it's pretty annoying since I usually keep it in the taskbar and when I want to maximize µTorrent it crashes. Hope you'll be able to fix this problem in the next release. If you need more info I be glad to help you...
Ultima
That bug is nonexistent, as many people are able to download at faster speeds (read: 100mbit/s connections, or faster) without any problems. As such, I'm moving this into Troubleshooting.Mind telling us whether you have any incompatible software installed as listed in the FAQ? What are your disk cache settings like? Are your primary and secondary IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers currently in DMA mode in Start > Run > devmgmt.msc?
adriantc
Well the setting in Device Manager is "DMA if available"? Should I change it to PIO only? The disk cache setting is the default... all checkboxes are checked except the first and the last!
DreadWingKnight
Leave it in DMA if available. What are the drives "Current Transfer Mode" values?
Ultima
Um... I don't think the default settings for disk cache is to have most of the checkboxes checked... All you really need is to "Enable caching of disk writes" and "Enable caching of disk reads" -- everything else is not needed. If you override disk cache size, then don't use the last option to increase automatic cache size. If you don't override, enabling the last option wouldn't hurt, but isn't necessary.
adriantc
well both Current Transfer Modes are "Not Applicable".I have left the automatic cache size and check the last box. Only time can tell if it is of any help...
Ultima
... On both primary and secondary? There should be 4 devices in total, not just 2.
adriantc
No the secondary ones have Ultra DMA Mode 2. Is that good?
adriantc
Well I've tried switching off all options of disk cache and I still have the same problem. I've check the FAQ and I don't have any software mentioned there.... Please help... this is becoming really annoying!
Ultima
Disabling the Disk Cache is not a good idea.I have left the automatic cache size and check the last box.Now I'm wondering how exactly you had your cache set up... what were the settings before you disabled it?
adriantc
Well the first and the last checkboxes where not checked (the default options). Then I tried with the last one checked, but it made no difference. I have downloaded v1.5 and it seems it doesn't have this problem so I guess it is something related to disk cache.PS: I use, in case you wonder, BitDefender as my security software. Ultima
Eh? I'm not sure what you mean here, but let's start over with configuring the Disk Cache (it's pretty simple, really). Disable ALL cache options in Disk Cache, and ONLY check "Enable caching of disk writes" and "Enable caching of disk reads". Yes, that means you should leave the cache size manual override, and the automatic cache size increase DISabled.
adriantc
I'll try your options but it will take some time since I only have that problem when I have an upload speed of over 1Mb/s (the crash doesn't happen when I download). After extensive testing yesterday I am now sure that v1.5 doesn't have this problem.Anyway I will post for updates as soon as I can test your settings. Thanks,EDIT: After short testing I have managed to determine that it still crashes when upload speed over 1MB/s! Ultima
Okay, from here, do check the last one (increase automatic cache size).
adriantc
I have already tried that and it was of no use...
Ultima
Get Process Explorer from sysinternals.com, File > SaveCopy and paste the process list in the .txt file that you save from there.
adriantc
I think I'm going to stick with 1.5 version at least until that problem is fixed. Thanks for the help....
DreadWingKnight
I've had uT 1.6.x running at over 1mbyte/sec upload without crashing. It's probably something on your system causing bad interactions.Using 1.5 is NOT a supported solution
adriantc
Maybe it isn't supported, but it's the only thing that works as it should...and I really don't want to change to BitComet or Azureus again...
DreadWingKnight
So you aren't going to help us get to the bottom of what's actually going on?If you are going to help, follow what ultima said to do in post 16.

Ultima
NetLimiter -- not sure, but a possible culpritBitDefender -- known to cause issuesnVidia nForce -- do you have nVidia Firewall installed?Try uninstalling (not simply disabling) both NetLimiter and BitDefender. As for nVidia Firewall, if you do have it installed, it's also been known to be problematic -- try uninstalling that too if applicable.Afterwards, enable Windows Firewall, and try µTorrent again.
