itcdr
Suppose the tracker goes down for your torrent, but people are still able to download using DHT in uTorrent. You don't want to remove the torrent from your site if it's still active, but you can't scrape the tracker to find if there are still seeders. Is it possible use something like PHP or Perl to scrape DHT network to get number of seeders/downloaders for the torrent?
DreadWingKnight
Not easily. You'd need to parse the entire network, which isn't exactly a resource-friendly process.
itcdr
How does uTorrent do it? Can you point me in the right directions of how this works?

DreadWingKnight
The best you can do (and this doesn't even allow you to differentiate between seed and peer) is attempt to query the DHT for as many nodes as possible.
itcdr
At least I would know if there are still peers. How would I do this. When there is a tracker I simply send a scrape command to it and parse the results, but how do I query the DHT?
