ph0rn
I'm looking for a program that shows my running processes and then shows how much bandwidth each process is using... does anyone know of any?
chaosblade
You can try NetLimiter.
slayers
Seconded!Great little app, and it will prioritize ACK packets too which will make your whole internet access more responsive.
ploder
You could try a free trial of X-Netstat which I've heard is quite good.
Firon
NetLimiter doesn't prioritize ACKs, CfosSpeed does...CfosSpeed also allows application level priority.
Pwnage
my question is is it any good or is is is it bad?
slayers
NetLimiter doesn't prioritize ACKs,I am absolutely stunned to hear this.. I've been using it for ages and, believe me, I've abused my internet connection every way I could and never got any of the symptoms usually associated with upstream choking. In fact, I had them before and they went away after I installed NetLimiter. I could swear I saw a reference to prioritization on the site but I never looked back after it started working for me.Now you've got me completely puzzled. How could it have worked for me then? Maybe there's something else in the code that makes applications play nice.
Firon
You were throttling the programs or global upload, maybe? Even when I was using NetLimiter to throttle programs, my pings still went up a significant amount. They don't with cFosSpeed, though, just a measly 20-30ms increase with the upload uncapped. Pwnage
so its no good?
Firon
NetLimiter is good for monitoring individual programs' bandwidth use and throttling them.cFosSpeed is good for shaping traffic and prioritizing ACKs and programs. Here is the cFosSpeed's display with the Liquid Crystal skin:
slayers
cFosSpeed IS superior to Netlimiter. cFosSpeed does application prioritization which is really cool. NetLimiter does exactly what ph0rn requested and, based on my own experience, it did a whole lot more.NetLimiter is an easy install while cFosSpeed might require some tweaking. Ultima
They're different products, I don't see what there is to compare about them. One limits the bandwidth on a per-application basis. The other prioritizes which application's packets get sent out first. You can't really say that one is superior to the other O.o
Firon
Well, you can compare them because NetLimiter throttles the bandwidth used by a program, and with cFosSpeed, throttling isn't really required at all.
Ultima
As I said earlier, NetLimiter was meant to allow you to control how much bandwidth each specific application gets. cFosSpeed prioritizes their packets, but doesn't tell each application how much bandwidth they can use. Both applications do different things, and though the side-effect of either one's intended use might overlap with the other's, they weren't really designed to do the same thing. As far as ph0rn's request goes, NetLimiter gets the job done (I'm not sure if cFosSpeed can display how much bandwidth an individual application is using). There are a lot of freeware programs out there that measure bandwidth usage, though, so NetLimiter isn't the most economical choice.
Pwnage
so which one would be better at getting the job done? Ive tryed cfosspeed, didnt like it.
