uTorrent using a lot of CPU power

It really slows down my whole system and makes games unplayable.. My PC is pretty good (c2d 6600, 2gb ram etc). I'm using 1.6.1 and windows xp sp2.

Using the process explorer, clicking on uTorrent and checking the threads the top thread is:

"utorrent.exe+0x10cef" and it uses between 30-40% cpu power. It also says Thread ID: 2536 if that helps.

a) try µTorrent 1.7 RC6

paste a process list using Process Explorer (File > Save > paste .txt content)

It's probably some security software going nuts. Have you also checked the FAQ for incompatible software?

Try adding µTorrent to NOD32's IMON exception list. Or disable IMON altogether. Maybe that will solve your problem. It has been known to cause problems for people.

Failing that, your hard drives may've reverted to PIO mode.
