Pseudo
Hi. Apologies in advance for any noobery on my part...Yesterday I created a torrent for a 1.4gb file. Obviously I am the sole seed at this early stage, and I've attracted some 60+ peers overnight. My max upload speed already sucks at a lousy ~25kb, but being mobbed is making it much worse.Looking at the peers list in uTorrent, I see the oldest downloaders are currently at 60%, but for some reason I'm usually uploading to the newcomers who have far less. As the only seed I don't want someone at 20% to be hogging my upload space that could be put to better use going to someone with 60%. Is there any way I can give top priority to uploading to those peers with the highest percentage, so they can become seeds as soon as possible and help me out? DreadWingKnight
Giving priority to highest completed will just encourage them to leave earlier. What you need to make sure is happening is that you are not uploading pieces from the existing availability that is out there.Enable initial seed mode on the torrent. Pseudo
Ah, ok. That helps. When should I turn Initial Seeding off? When other seeds appear?
DreadWingKnight
I'd leave it on until about 150%-200% uploaded.

hermanm
What's your reasoning for 150%-200% versus 100%?
Pseudo
BTW, does the Initial Seeding setting take effect straight away or do I have to reload the torrent task?
DreadWingKnight
What's your reasoning for 150%-200% versus 100%?Because he's far enough along in distribution that if he stops at 100%, there won't be enough of the file available among peers for them to complete without him.Initial seeding takes effect immediately.
