Can't download

I have installed utorrent and followed all the directions about port forwarding. When I do the port test, it says that it was successful and that I can now receive incoming bittorents.

However, when I open torrents, nothing happens. The up/download indicators at the bottom show nothing.

I use Windows Vista. Also, utorrents goes into "not responding mode" pretty often.

I have disabled AV and firewall.

Any ideas, please?

Thanks,

Clayton

Version , I believe, is 1.7.5...I just downloaded it from the site yesterday.

One other note, and I will copy HiJack Log. I used utorrent for over a year with no problems. I never had to do the port forward thing, it just worked. For non-related reasons, I decided to reformat my hard drive and do a clean install of Vista...which did wonders for my PC. One of the few problems I've had is in reinstalling utorrent.

OK thank you.

First off there are tweaks which need/should be made to Vista's networking subsystem. I believe a search with "vista and netsh" should be helpful.

OH WOW! Well i don't want to say it's the culprit right off the bat, but searching for "roxio" will also tell you about other users' experience with the program suite.

Generally ANY media indexer or active scanner (anti virus, search, and others) needs to have uT's download directory in EXCEPTIONS.

As an alternative you can use the settings to add !ut extension to incomplete files. But really if that fixes it, it proves the program is hanging uT by trying to access incomplete files.

Also your firewall (iolo?) added itself to the LSP chain for your browsing.

You may also notice that internet transversal is a bit slow without uT running. This is a cause of extra internet filters (many programs which inject themselves into LSP chain are malware)... a search for LSPFix will help if disabling that option in iolo does not help.

That's what I see as a possible problem right now.

You after you change Vista to accept the extra settings, see if that helps. After that, you should double-check, aka re-configure Ctrl-G settings.

(Backing up your settings before any OS upgrade is a good idea)

I am most thankful for your reply. It's a little over my head but not so much that it can't set me in the right direction.

I have tried several other similar programs but I don't like any as much as utorrent so I'm going to keep at it.

I really don't understand why it worked before with no setup. It could be that I installed it under XP and then I UPgraded to Vista. That caused a lot of problems, a nightmare, really, but utorrent still worked. Now that I've done a clean install i guess the Vista issues are coming out.

Thanks again,

Clayton

yea searching for Vista netsh

Essentially it's the same procedure you followed for XP post SP2 with the tcpip.sys patching. Additionally like I said many people report problems with Roxio's additional "features". You can use your computer however you want, but alot of times extra programs provide extra features users don't need. Vista's search functions have improved such that you really don't need any other sort of indexing software. Checking out Incompatible software also lists many other types/instances of software which interferes with proper functionality of uT.

Please feel free to report additional progress/questions/problems :)
