masoftheund
Our network admin installed 'SoftPerfect Bandwidth Manager' on the server and blocks a whole range of ports. He has agreed to open the ports for my uTorrent, but allowing the port used by my uTorrent (which is properly forwarded) still prevents uTorrent from downloading. The trackers connect fine...The number of seeds and peers per torrent are listed...But there's no downloading and it indicates "No incoming connections" on the icon at the bottom...Do i need to open some other ports that are maybe used for some other stuff? jewelisheaven
Are you sure he opened the SAME port you are using (as seen from Ctrl-G Speed Guide)? Also please check with http://www.canyouseeme.org and http://www.utorrent.com/testport.php?port=YOURPORTNUMBER and https://www.grc.com/x/portprobe=YOURPORTNUMBER to test open ports... Sometimes the uT checker is wrong.Verifying the current conditions, what happens when you use OpenOffice Torrents?
masoftheund
I am very sure......i typed it in myself.....i ask him to disable it for while to check....and immediately he does, the icon goes green and downloads start working...Also he changed the server blocks to only outgoing...with my port still excluded and now the icon is green, but no downloading...Funny, the uTorrent test port says it's not forwarded but the other two you've given say it is.Strange...OpenOffice Torrents seem to work fine... jewelisheaven
:/ I don't know what to tell you. If OpenOffice peers are able to connect to you "I" in Peers Flags column... it's the swarm. If not, you need to explain to your lan admin uT needs to be able to accept all INCOMING packets on your port from all IPs (minus any subset blocklisted)... You outgoing I guess doesn't matter if others can make incoming to you. That's what I'm talking about Different checkers use different metrics to verify "open-ness". I think the uT checker relies on getting some handshake and being rejected... which doesn't work if no torrents are active.
masoftheund
I think the problem is from the rules in the bandwidth monitor...I've been trying to sort it out....wish i could find a bandwidth program that makes exceptions for specific MAC addresses....this one doesn't seem to work. Thanks for your help though..
