twiggs396
hi i have done port forwarding about 1 month ago and the light at the bottom was green the whole time, but it has now gone amber, and im not sure why this is?
Ultima
What modem are you using? What router? What firewall? Did you set a static IP up for your computer outside of the router's DHCP range before forwarding the port?
twiggs396
hi i have a thomson speedtouch 585, with windows firewall, the amber light is now green but the downloads seem quite slow, more so than usual
Ultima
Well, I can't say I'm all too surprised. Tiscali has been known to throttle/interfere with BitTorrent traffic.
twiggs396
tell me about it! paid for 8meg. its usually alright, up around 150 but now rarely gets over 25. is there anything i can do?
jewelisheaven
Uhm, Tiscali gets press about overloading their lines. Short of a MASSIVE (20% of their total paying customer base would be enough i reckon) revolt and leaving to other places, nothing will be done it seems. Basic data @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TiscaliIf you've already tried Ultima's How-To post #2 and forced encryption and not allow unencrypted traffic.. not likely

jewelisheaven
Click How-To in my signature, and go to post #2 in that thread Basically what you're trying to do is make sure you are ONLY advertising yourself to peers/tracker. Period. No extra features like DHT or DNS resolving. No fancy 100 peers per torrent. No "but I like running 10 torrents at once". You dig?
twiggs396
sorry not really, what does it mean without all the 'fancy' bits. i have done what the how to says and now the light at the bottom is amber but still a similar speed, show i put it all back. i hate tiscali
jewelisheaven
It's your choice. Not all of the shaping methods show immediate results. Since it's likely you're already on an oversubscribed line turning off those features and keeping a low connection count can only help you. The best help would of course be to switch ISPs but like in the US, in the EU places only get 1 broadband provider.
Ultima
µTorrent 1.8 can get around throttling in some cases -- you might want to try it if you haven't already done so.
