Doc_L
I'm running Vista ultimate 64 and have a powerline modem called P-Bus. There's no integrated router in the modem, and I have disabled windows firewall so portforwarding should not be nessesarry right? The icon is mostly yellow, although it turns red sometimes. The speed is very poor for downloads and even worse for uploads. One interesting thing is I had exactly the same problem with my last ISP. Then I had ADSL and a linksys router listed in portforwarding.com. So i followed the guide, which was not very complicated, but it didn't work. Exactly the same, icon mostly yellow but sometimes red, poor speeds. Makes me think this doesn't have anything to do with my ISP or modem. The worlds doesn't seem to be ready for Vista 1,5 years after its release, and I wouldn't be surpriced if this problem was Vista related although utorrent claims to be compatible...Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
crazyhorse
have you tried a really solid torrent? like http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/index.htmlalso i suppose you have seen this guide? http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992do you see peers from your same ISP connecting and getting good speeds?this is where i would start. lets hope you get some expert help soon! Doc_L
Thanks, already red the guide though. I do get desent if there's a LOT of peers like the open office torrent. But if theres for example around 10 seeders and 10 lechers, I usually get around 5kb down, up speed can even be 0. I guess that's the consequense of no incoming connections. So need to turn the yellow icon green somehow. When testing the port I get error, port not open. This is odd since I don't have router and disabled windows firewall. I Shouldn't need to worry about ports if I don't have firewall or router right? Switeck
You may have a hidden firewall/router in your modem...or hidden firewall in your internet software.
Doc_L
Switeck, if that is true, is there any way you know of I can check it? I have a powerline modem called P-bus 85pt that seems to be pretty rare (I live in Thailand). Oddly i don't even find it on google... Like I said, I had the same problem earlier when I had a different ISP and Modem (still in Thailand though). That might suggest it's something to do with my OS or other software rather than the modem, but if so what can it be and what can I do about it? GTHK
You can try to check the modem by trying these addresses and seeing if any work.http://192.168.1.1http://192.168.1.100http://192.168.1.254http://192.168.100.1http://192.168.100.100http://192.168.100.254If not, Start > Run > Type "CMD" > type "IPCONFIG /ALL" and see if you have a 192.168 address or 10.something address, if yes, tell us the first 3 so we can tell you if it's private, if not, get logs and post them by following this. Doc_L
Thanks for you answer GTHK, http://192.168.100.254 is working (get promted for password). What does that tell me? The people I ordered my internet package from didn't even have the password and claimed there is no router...
GTHK
I'm glad I threw 254 in . Try NO password, or admin, or something. Also, if your IP on your computer starts with 192.168, it tells you your behind a NAT, which is a sort of firewall, which means the people you called lied. Use the ipconfig command specified above to check. If it doesn't start with that, the modem might have some internal firewall still. Can you look at your modem? Look for a model number, I'll try to find out about it (Google is your friend).
Doc_L
Thanks again gthk. Usually you can find info on most things on google, (especially computer related stuff), but not in this case it seems. I only get two hits on p-bus 85pt (my modem), of which one is unrealted and the other one is this post...Rather then lying i think the people I talked to were ignorant. I think I'll give this a rest now, to much work to deal with this people, and I'll move in less then two month anyway. thanks anyway

Doc_L
not much choise though, I order the package and get this modem, not much to do about it. It's not like Europe or North America here in Thailand...
GTHK
Well first, when your at your new place, run IPCONFIG and see if you have a private IPA.
