The well known "yellow triangle of doom"

Hey everyone,

Again, someone with the same problem, the yellow triangle or "can't connect to peers". Which basicly means all my downloads are really slow.

I did the following on my belkin router:

Forwarded the port specified,

I did the following with Kaspersky security:

Created the rules.

Now when I check to see if the forwarded port is opened, it's not. Even though I forwarded it. I've spent countless hours trying to find the right settings and went to all the walkthroughs, and still I get it.

Now my question is: have I overlooked something, or is this ISP related? My router is an old Belkin one but still I followed the guide and set a static IP adress, forwarded the port on my router, and created the neccesairy rules for kaspersky. I also enabled encryption to see if it was my ISP's doing.

Any help?

Thanks in Advance,

SeldenSeen

Recreate the rules, reforward the port, being sure to specify your computers port and address, and try the following IPA's to see if you have a modem with some hidden settings.

http://192.168.1.1

http://192.168.1.100

http://192.168.1.254

http://192.168.100.1

http://192.168.100.100

http://192.168.100.254

Bypass your router first, and also load a http://distibution.openoffice.org/p2p torrent and see if it changes to green while bypassing the router.

Well firstly, I know it's not my ISP cause my friend on the exact same ISP can download fine via torrents, so then I thought it was my firewall, I uninstalled my firewall, opened utorrent, again the triangle, then i downloaded another firewall (comodo) set all the rules that were found in on of the topics made about it. Forwarded the port according to this http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Belkin/F5D5231-4/Utorrent.htm walkthrough (and I set the settings so i have a static IP adress, being 192.168.2.136, then forwarded the port via the virtuel server menu (which in my case was 47554) and it still gave me the same error. Maybe I'm just too dumb to make it work because from what I've heard it worked perfectly fine for everyone I know and they didn't even have to tweak any settings.

I get download speeds of 20-50kb/sec which is rediculously slow. The thing is my upload is fine cause I'm uploading more than I download.

I tried the OpenOffice test and I got 200kb/sec after about 2 minutes, then exited the download. I take it I'm just on a bad file then? It has 20(86) seeds 10(136) peers

I'm changing it to 240 to check. Thanks for your time man, appriciate the "live help" :P

Just so I know i'm doing everything correctly, does it require I reboot after I change my static ip from 192.168.2.136 to 192.168.2.240 and forward the port to the same ip.

Ok just so I know it's not my other settings I'll list them here to be sure:

Global max number of connections 150

Maximum number of connected peers per torrent 150

Number of upload slots per torrent 5

Protocol encryption ENABLED

Port used for incoming connections 47554

Maximum upload rate: 50

Max download rate 200

If you have msn, let me know I'll add you so I don't have to keep flooding the forums.

Yeah I'm hanging out while I do testing on µT, trying to reproduce something for alus (one of the program developers). Eventually though, I shall take my leave to play Paper Mario (GCN).

Anyway, if you have doubts about your settings, click the triangle thingy, press the speed test button, and run it with all your torrents stopped. Oh, and don't use the Miami server, there has been a few... problems in the area. Once you have your upload result, pick your upload from the drop down list in that speed guide menu in µT. Round down.

And posting in the forum is fine, if other people see your issue they might get ideas on troubleshooting, plus Ultima or jewelisheaven could pop in some time.

Download Speed: 5994 kbps (749.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 704 kbps (88 KB/sec transfer rate)

(bear in mind though that's an american server, and I'm belgian so yeah. 200 down 50 up should be fine?

And i changed my static ip to 192.168.2.240 and again forwarded the 47554 port to my static ip adress and the triangle still remains, when I check if the 47554 port is opened it's not.. any suggestions? :s Cause I'm totally lost

I've heard of routers that don't port forward correctly, and belkin has made some crappy gear before, try bypassing the router like I suggested earlier, you do have a modem right? The router might be crap. Are you using PPPoA/PPPoE on your router?

A VoIP modem? I wonder if you have to port forward... the only thing I can recommend at this point is bypass the router when no one is using it, only for a few minutes as a test. If it still doesn't give the OK, try those addresses again.

Not necessarily, try updating your routers firmware, if it's a bug that's been fixed, that should do it. You don't have a laptop or anything? Another way to bypass the router, set router to bridge mode for wired connections.

If you're talking about DMZ mode, that's crap. If that's an actual option though, maybe as a test, followed by trying those addresses I listed again to see if you can find a modem config page. For updating, you normally go to the manufacturers website, download the upgrade, and load it into the upgrade page, not sure about Belkins though, look for a manual online or physically.

Went to the official site, checked my router-- no firmware updates.. yay for me.

pfff what a joy I spent my whole day trying to figure otu how to make it work and no luck at all... guess i'm doomed to have slow downloads
