complete computer freeze during downloading

Recommended Posts

I've been torrenting for several years now and I've always had the problem of my computer completely freezing up during downloading. This means I can't move my mouse or use Ctrl+Alt_Delete, I have to do a hard restart. This problem has been happening for me for a few years including using other programs like Azureus. The only way I have been getting success out of U-Torrent was by limiting my peers to around 10 and significantly limiting my download and upload speeds to around 50kb/s. Lately I have also been having problems with freeze ups while using programs like Google maps. BTW I don't think I have am running any programs that don't work with U torrent.

I have a 2.79 GHz processor and have 504 MB of ram on a Sony Desktop and I use a D-Link router. While looking at old posts about computer free-up's I haven't been able to solve my problem and I really want to solve this. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Have you tried running over wireless without using that dlink software? I'm assuming you're using a WLAN card, not USB to connect to your network yes?

Also with such a low amount of RAM, have you thought about turning off some of those services?

Additionally, isn't the new iMesh bundled with adware? It's one of those software... "owned" by Discordia Ltd. You know, you've heard of them.. the ones trying to fight the official shareaza community @ http://shareaza.sourceforge.net/

Thanks for the quick reply jewelisheven, I am using a WLAN card and to tell you the truth trying to figure out my wireless set-up has always given me nightmares.

Its funny because I noticed that IMesh thing on there after I did my Hijackthis report and I was surprised to see it on there because I thought I'd gotten rid of it a long time ago. But now its officially gone.

As for some help if can you or anyone can give me some tips on how I could connect to my wireless without my d-link router, do I need to buy an new WLAN card because I can't get from my network box to my PC with a cable to set it up. I'm a novice when it comes to routing so I wouldn't know where to begin.

As for the services I'd love to get rid of that Sony VIAO crap but I don't even know how to do it. I guess I could just delete the programs because I never use them. It never occurred to me that those things just started up on their own.
