bizarrozero
hello im currently having a problem with my utorrent 1.7.7 im a vista user. home basic.it says i have no ports open but i do. i have a router (wbr-1310 dlink) and i enabled the ports from there. im also connected with rogers. even though i have my red exclamation mark my dl speeds jump from 2kbps to at least 20kbps. which i should be at around 80-90kbps. also i have reseted my router, and my windows firewall accepted utorrent.can anyone help me out? thanks
Switeck
Rogers Cable in Canada may be throttling BitTorrent traffic down as well as up...but they DEFINITELY throttle up!You may have other firewalls blocking uTorrent...such as your antivirus software or modem. bizarrozero
my antivirus is AVG... it doesnt have its own firewall. i had a good connection before it was dling at 90kbps with a yellow icon. but now its red and dling from 2kbps and jumps up to 20kbps then back down to 2. its weird. Switeck
I read elsewhere that AVG has something like "spam protection" or "AVG Resident Shield" which includes a lite firewall.
bizarrozero
o rly? i never would have thought that? so ill check it out later though and ill reply if it works or not. but thanks for the tip on that... i never would have thought AVG did that. Firon
Most antivirus applications nowadays can act like firewalls.
bizarrozero
so like when ever i have utorrent loaded i should like cancel the spam protect and resident shield. or should i just shut down AVG completely? liek what would you do?
Firon
I'd just go into the exceptions for those options and add utorrent to them.
bizarrozero
liek into the windows firewall? or through avg? b/c i dont see anything like that in avg? or maybe i might not be looking hard enough
Firon
No, in AVG's options. I can't give you specifics as I don't use AVG.

Firon
Hmm, I'm wrong. It looks like AVG does have those kind of features. Try uninstalling it.
bizarrozero
well i didnt uninstall it but what if i add it to the PUP exceptions would that work?
Firon
It might, but it's probably easier to uninstall and see if it works, then reinstall later and try to fix it.
