appledapplepwn
I was told recently that certain p2p programs reward you with higher speed while downloading for having higher upload settings and i was wondering if µtorrent was like that? thelittlefire
uTorrent is a bittorrent application. Bittorrent applications like upload (download) so the more you give the more you get, to a point.UNLIMITED upload however is a bad idea. It not only allows continual overruns on your line, it doesn't give an accurate representation for sustained upload. http://utorrent.com/setup_guide.phpUse Ctrl-G or the closest upload speed you get there, and check i you can actually upload at that amount consistently. Most often you can't if the ISP interferes. You could alternatively use low-resource settings on impacted ISPs where they shape or on low-grade consumer hardware or over wireless or quota'ed plans. http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=34259The general rule o thumb/tipping point is 3-5 KiBps per peer is the minimum to get "preferential" treatment as far as their upload is concerned. SO, TOTAL_UPLOAD/(TOTAL_TORRENTS*UPLOAD_SLOTS)>3 and <5 is what you want.
Firon
The short answer is that there is a reward for uploading, but it's transient. Uploading to one peer only helps with that same peer. It's not a "global" credit system. An unlimited upload speed will often make things worse. You will generally just overload your connection, and you can actually REDUCE throughput when doing so.

Switeck
You really see the reward system at work on a large torrent with about 4-20 peers (all connected) and 1 semi-slow seed. If you don't return the favor to other peers then, they really will ignore you.
