Checksum Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Can someone explain what seeds and peers are? What do the numbers represent?Seeds 0 of 38 connected (10 in swarm)Peers 15 of 60 connected (17 in swarm)I have uploaded 4 torrents and I have seen high numbers, close to 100 but only have 4 to 6 seeders.Do people just download and then remove?
Ultima Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 It's all explained in the manual, actually Press F1 in µTorrent, and check the guides in the beginning. As for being connected to few seeds, it doesn't necessarily imply that people are leaving immediately after completion (though it is possible). You can't always connect to every peer.
Checksum Posted December 12, 2008 Author Report Posted December 12, 2008 Ok so my theory was that if I upload a new torrent I should stop seeding my other ones so the new one gets a faster upload. Is that wrong?
Ultima Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 It's not wrong, I suppose. If you stop, then keep an eye on the torrents if you don't want them to die.
thelittlefire Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Upload is upload. To get it faster to others, yes, stopping other torrents would do that... As long as there are enough slots. To get most upload to others without contributing a majority of bandwidth to the swarm, enable initial seeding in torrent properties.
Checksum Posted December 12, 2008 Author Report Posted December 12, 2008 Like Ultima said stop them for awhile but I feel like I'm the people that download and then don't seed especially when they are my torrents.I have tried the initial seeding and it didn't seem like it worked.I will get over it I guess.I can't believe that all these people downloaded and not many seeders came out of it.Plus all the comments that were left was Thank you and thanks for the UP keep them coming.
moogly Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Superseeding (initial seeding) is optimal when you upload a torrent and you are the first seeder. But you dont need use when you seed a torrent with many seeders.
thelittlefire Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 Hence the distinction.. if you care HOW MUCH you give to the swarm before you can move on, use initial seed.. if you just want to give bandwidth to the swarm keep it off.
