DartmanX
I am wondering if utorrent (and any bittorent client in general) will aggregate bandwidth with nearby peers. Here's a "for instance":Two people, John and Joe, each have an internet account that has 128/64 specs. They want to download a 100mb file.John and Joe are right next door to each other, and on the same subnet. If they both downloaded the same torrent, at the same time, would their two clients, noticing their proximity on the network, effectively combine their bandwidth, meaning John and Joe get the file twice as fast as otherwise? Thanks for the help. blueplanet
Nope...doesn't work that way..On the other hand if DO want faster speed, doing it this way might help - http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=13102
DartmanX
Okay, I'm missing something here. The link says that one could start two BT clients on one machine and add 127.0.0.1 manually as a peer. So, why couldn't John add Joe's IP manually as a peer, and Joe add John's IP?
DreadWingKnight
Being nearby as far as network topology is concerned doesn't necessarily guarantee better speeds. In fact, in your example, they would be far better off NOT trying to connect to each other because other peers are likely to have better speeds to and from them. DartmanX
You think that other peers would have better speeds, even if john and joe are on the same subnet? Remember, they have slow internet in this example (128/64).I realize that physical location usually wouldnt matter, but on the same subnet, their NETWORK proximity should be pretty close. DreadWingKnight
Yes they would get better speeds from outside peers, because it is very likely that other peers potentially have 1600/640 connections where these two have 128/64 connections. And that's before we even get to japanese and swedish peers with their 100000/100000 connections.
