Jonny2808
I have just purchased a Sony laptop and changed my internet setup to wireless using a Huawei Echolife HGS206b which is connected to my desktop computer downstairs.Since changing my setup i have never had my setup right as im always seeing a yellow/red icon at the bottom of the screen saying that ive got a firewall issue or i need to open a port.I have looked at port forwarding and need think i need to setup a static IP for my laptop? To do this am i right in thinking i need to contact my ISP for a DNS address? Do i need to alter my router settings? My bit torrent always randomises the port it uses everytime it opens is this also correct? Please help me im a bit confused. fatspirit
You need to set up your router. Static IP in this case means address inside your local nerwork - external IP may be different. To stop port randomizing you need to uncheck 'Randomize port each start' in Options->Preferences->Connection. And consider to read µTorrent's own help file and this forum's FAQ's. Jonny2808
Would you recommend unchecking randomize port? So are you saying i need to make my router a static IP address? If so any ideas how or is it on the faq's page?
Switeck
I don't recommend using a random port -- pick one between 10000 and 65500 and stick with it.Did you configure your modem too?http://www.portforward.com ROUTERS section lists both routers and modems that have NAT (router) features. Did you check to see if your router and modem was on their list?
