w@ntonsoup
I generally leave uTorrent running, but use the scheduler to only allow transfers while I'm going to be away from the PC for hours, because 10 seconds after I start a transfer, everything slows to a crawl on my PC. Even moving the mouse around is slower.1) I installed a new 2nd hard drive, and uTorrent exclusively uses that 2nd hard drive.2) I maxed out my RAM (2 GB).3) I have a really good, fast connection (cable modem).4) I'm running XP. Any ideas? I hoped that running everything off the 2nd HDD would solve the problem, but it hasn't.

Ultima
Is CPU usage 100% (or 50% or 25% if you have a dual/quad core processor) too? If so, check your primary and secondary IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers' properties in Start > Run > devmgmt.msc to see if any of the connected devices' current transfer modes are in PIO. w@ntonsoup
CPU usage never went all that crazy... I solved the problem by moving uTorrent directories away from a IDE drive to a SATA drive. I guess this PC's IDE controller doesn't much like using the 2nd IDE drive. Now it's smooth regardless. DreadWingKnight
That sounds like a drive lapsed into PIO mode then.
