Roxio Hard Drive Watcher 9 has a file indexer. Google it if you're not convinced. You have to set it or disable it as a service.

And about GG Desktop you need to exclude the global torrent download folder AND its subfolders. That's why this program is completely annoying.

2 possibilities:

1/ BitDefender is scanning your files: enable option "append .!ut to incomplete files" in uT (Preferences > General)

2/ Winamp has a media library I think. And it tries surely to index these files. Set it to exclude your torrent download folder.

I couldn't locate the spot to disable the temp scanning module so instead I've added my torrent download section to the exception list and am currently trying to download something freeleech, so I will see if that works.

I'll post soon to let you know if that solved the problem.

I too am having this same issue after upgrading to Windows 7 Professional from Windows XP Professional except that it's corrupting my already downloaded music that I am seeding. All of my music is stored on an secondary HD and I am starting to suspect that perhaps Windows Media Player may be the culprit although I'm trying to figure out how to control it if it is indeed causing the corrupted download. I ran WMP the other day and did the recommended setup which was probably the big mistake right there. Shall I post a HJT log? No Roxio or Google Desktop installed except NOD32.

Yes, I was aware of a feature like that back in Windows XP's WMP but I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to reverse whatever I unintentionally enabled in Windows 7. I'm assuming it's the "retrieve metadata from the internet and fill in the blanks" type of feature, no?

I'm stumped. I've used Registry Mechanic, checked the append incomplete box, updated uTorrent, etc... I'm not sure why this is happening. And it's a NEW problem - less than a month old. I did install CA antivirus around that time. I had to renew and so downloaded a newer version from the company. Winamp shouldn't be the culprit otherwise it would have always been causing problems, right? And the real-time virus check is not new either just the version of the software...thank you for helping. Any other ideas? I get about 5 minutes of download before it pukes.

I think I may have fixed my issue. I disabled the 'Search other files and libraries' feature under 'Taskbar and Start Menu Properties' since I do have my download location included into the music library for easy access. I also removed access to Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center since I mostly use iTunes and foobar2000 anyway.

Not sure if what I did is all necessary, but it seems like a fine idea.

I was having this error while using NOD32, and this is what I did:

µTorrent

· preferences

· general

· append .!ut to incomplete files

NOD32

· press f5

· real-time file system protection

· threatsense engine parameter setup: <click setup>

· add the extension !UT

I liked this more than just setting up a directory exception within NOD32.

Yes, if it appears only when your WD HDD is connected, that's surely a problem with a software from WD like WD Drive Manager.

You can try to see if WD programs contain file indexer or scanner. If yes, disable them or set them to exclude the torrent download folder.
