fieldlab
So I download and install uT OK. I just needed the latest freebsd distro. It worked well and then I left it sharing out the files for a long time to help others get it. It uploaded several gigs back onto the net over a couple of days. Now, when I stop the torrent and shut uTorrent down, I have all kinds of traffic still trying to connect to port 32459 even 12 hours later. I'm going to have to turn firewall logging off, but the traffic is really annoying. How long before these clients or seed servers give up? Why would anything try to connect more than a couple of minutes? I just don't get it...
Firon
Is it UDP traffic or TCP traffic? If TCP, it's 'cause they cache your IP:port, so it can come for a veryyy long time.If it's UDP, that's because of DHT, and expected. It'll probably last for days. (doesn't even matter if you turn DHT off)
Switeck
Can/Is anything done in µTorrent's design to at least not aggrevate the problem?By this I mean how µTorrent handles old ips stored in its peer/seed list, so it doesn't keep trying "dead" ones more than a couple hours after last connecting to them. Inf
Why do you call it a problem ? Come on, even if you get 10-s of connection attempts per seconds, it is not getting any way near something you could even remotely call a SYN flood. The only problem would be those paranoia-oriented firewalls that alert ppl about those SYN-s.
