js931
Hi everyone!I just wanted to know exactly how DHT works when i use a proxy server (set to route all traffic over it). When i use this proxy without DHT, i can see that utorrent only connects to the proxy and is keeping my IP private. But with DHT there are all kinds of connections to different IPs (not over the proxy!)!Is this supposed to be like this? Do these DHT-connections transport actual data or is it only used for the torrent hash info etc ? As you can imagine, i was a little irritated to see utorrent connecting everywhere and NOT using the proxy i configured. Why is that? Its a privacy concern for me and the other users who have configured a proxy...
Switeck
DHT doesn't use a proxy.I've heard just about any UDP packet using feature in uTorrent can't or won't use a proxy. This includes uTP peers/seeds...

js931
... but what is dht used for? does is transport actual data or is it only publishing the torrent information? is a client inside the network able to find out, which computer requested which torrent? Switeck
DHT is used to find other peers/seeds running the exact same torrents as yourself.
