sathish_utorrent
I tried up using "Add port" option in "Peers" tab. But my logger says this:"[2010-03-12 21:38:32] 117.193.***.***:8877: Disconnect: Peer error: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. "Can anyone tell me how to manually open the 8877 port?
Switeck
That's their port on their network, not your port on your network. Doubtful you're legally allowed or capable of remotely configuring their networking equipment.
sathish_utorrent
Both the systems that i use are mine. I just want to transfer files to my private friends using Bittorrent. Thats why I am practicing these things. My question is "How do I manually open ports in one computer so that i could connect to it using another computer(through internet)"?. moogly
Enter in your router setup and open a port.Follow this guide: http://portforward.com/ (find your router and select uTorrent)
sathish_utorrent
I tried that already. It does not work. This is my scenario.I used this link to test my port"http://www.utorrent.com/testport?port=8677"The result was OK. utorrent site said that this port is ready to be used.Even after this,I get the same error message in my log.I suppose that utorrent reports the port condition of my computer rather than the router. When I scanned my PC using port scanner, it showed 8677 as a opened port. But when I scanned my router, it says nothing about 8677.
moogly
Use a port number higher than 10000.
sathish_utorrent
Its of no use.And can you please explain why you said to set the port number larger than 10000.?

sathish_utorrent
Now I narrowed down the cause of the problem. I get this strange error in my log.[2010-03-18 20:14:21] ICMP port bind failed 0.0.0.0:18877: (10013) An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions. What does this mean?
Switeck
Does it even happen on the test torrents mentioned in the 1st link in my signature?
sathish_utorrent
I also notice that this problem occurs only when I am in "ordinary user" account in WinXP.
Switeck
I guess windows permissions don't allow uTorrent to make/get all kinds of connections it needs like that.
