jiminyc
I've started torrenting and many times if (for example) A to Z is available in a torrent I'll dl A,B,M, and T because I already have or don't want the other files available (plus the torrent might be 2gb but I only want 250mb). Is this improper behavior? Though I hold what I've dloaded for other users it must hurt the availability of the torrent....
DreadWingKnight
It actually does hurt the availability of the torrents significantly if you do selective downloading like that extensively. If you already have the exact files, you can add them to your incomplete and help offset availability skews like that.It does actually slow things down slightly overall if you skip files like that, and can take a LONG time to recover from the availability shift. Some torrents never recover.
