CPU Issue

Recommended Posts

I've been having a significant CPU issue ever since I installed 3.0. I'm hoping I can get this resolved. Please let me know if there is anything I can try.

I have tried the recommendations listed in this post:

http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=74820

This is an older machine but has plenty of free memory and hard drive space. 2.x versions of uTorrent worked flawlessly. It is running WinXP. I have tried completely disabling the firewall and the antivirus and the problem persists. I've gone into MSConfig and removed almost every unnecessary startup and service. I've gone into Hijack and removed most remaining unnecessary stuff. Nothing has changed. uTorrent shoots up to over 50% CPU continuously the entire time it is running (usually 65-80%). This happens almost immediately after startup.

I've linked ProcessExplorer and HijackThis logs.

http://www.mediafire.com/?sd1b49b3eke1399

The way I use uTorrent: I have a few random torrents running but I primarily use the RSS Downloader and have several (15 or so) RSS feeds active. I have tried disabling all the RSS feeds and this did not change the CPU load issue.

If you have any suggestions or advice I'm willing to try anything.

It fixed my issues with the CPU racing and memory leak.

Just ignore the stupid comments from the admins. Apparently they need a user to go through the source code and point out the issues for them.

Essentially the issue is caused by a torrent that version 3 handles incorrectly. Find and remove the torrent and all is good again. You should be able to re-add the torrent again without issue.

Fantastic, will try it. So the indication is that a torrent has been mishandled by the system and there is a buffer miscalculation or something that may be causing a continuous write state - this should also show up in file i/o or memory performance analysis as well. And that the problem isn't related to a specific torrent (because the fix involves merely deleting the torrent and data, and re-adding the torrent works fine) but it could be any torrent. I'll look into it.

These are troublesome bugs to fix because they aren't easily repeatable. A big clue might be that the force re-check causes a program freeze up. Since so many people have had this problem arise (and several have mentioned that this fix resolves it), I'm wondering if there is something I can do if I find the culprit torrent to help resolve the bug? Can I send the .torrent, the data and some sort of data configuration file to the devs? What file does uTorrent use to store the information about its current active torrents?

Does the problem persist with avast p2p shield off?

Yep, I've tried both using Avast's Disable functionality as well as actually removing Avast from the system and neither had any effect.

Also, in regards to the above suggestion that this might be a single torrent file causing the problem, this is not the case in my situation. I have deleted ALL torrents which completely solved the issue, uTorrent has no CPU issues when there are zero torrents running. However I added 2 torrents back and now I'm up to a sustained 17-27% CPU load. It seems to be scaled to the number of active torrents running. Again, these are torrents that I started up as part of the RSS Downloader - not sure if that is related. Is there a way to back up my RSS configuration (all my RSS feeds) so I can remove them from the equation?
