xerces8
Hi!If anyone tried to download and run uTorrent as a non-administrator user on modern Windows OS-es that have UAC (User Account Control) they noticed that the UAC dialog appears asking for a password of an administrator. Here is how to "fix" that. The UAC is triggered by the install wizard, uTorrent "itself" runs fine without it. -download uTorrent.exe and place it where you want to keep it (I have it in My Documents/progs ) - right click the uTorrent.exe icon and select Properties in the menu - open the "Compatibility" tab in the dialog - in the "Compatibility mode" frame check the option "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)" -close the dialog by clickin the OK button - double-click uTorrent.exenow it should start without the UAC dialog - go thru the installer wizard selecting NO on each pagewhen finished, uTorrent will start - exit by selecting the menu File / Exit - open the file properties menu again and deselect the option "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" From now on uTorrent.exe works without ever bothering you with UAC.The procedure need to be repeated when you download a newer version of uTorrent.exe(if anyone know how to skip the execution of the installer wizard, I'm all ears)Regards,DavidPS: The above tested on Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit, Windows 8 Pro 64 and Windows Server 2012 Standard 64 bit.with uTorrent 3.3 29126
ciaobaby
Or you could just edit the local security policies.
ciaobaby
And if you don't want to get your metaphorical hands dirty.Use the UAC control which can be downloaded from http://www.itknowledge24.com/

xerces8
You all seem to miss the point: non-admin userA non-admin user can not do any of the suggestions. Only admins can.(besides why would anyone drop system security just for a sake of one program?)
ciaobaby
Well in that case ..... tough luck. It obviously isn't your machine and you probably shouldn't be installing uTorrent on it.
