ernaniaroldo
Is there any way to avoid the annoying "Disc Overloaded" error message ? I mean is there any setting that could help ? As far as I can understand that makes disc spinning which is dangerous for serious damage ! Is that right ? I've tried saving torrents to either the main drive of my PC or to an external one with the same result ! Please let me know ! Many thanks in advance ! DreadWingKnight
As far as I can understand that makes disc spinning which is dangerous for serious damage ! Is that right ?Nope. It means that the drive can't keep up with uTorrent's activity on it.
ernaniaroldo
Sorry, but I thought that this is the nature of the torrent system, meaning that It downloads whatever parts it can get randomly causing a lot of disk movements which in turn cause wear and tear on the drive ! Am I that wrong ? Besides the "Disc Overloaded" message is lasting for about 15 to 20 minutes max and then it continues downloading normally, meaning that the drive can keep with u Torrent's activity on it after all ! And is there any setting for if not avoiding it at least reduce it ? Please let me know on all the above ! Thanks again for your time !

Am I that wrong ?Yes. Random seeks are FAR FAR less damaging to a drive than letting it spin down and then spin up again, especially with newer functions like NCQ (which allow more random seeks per revolution of the drive). If your disk overload goes away after a while, the problem is likely being caused by preallocation.Turn preallocate off, sparse files on, and no zeroing of files on. ernaniaroldo
I found "preallocate" and it wasn't activated by default I suppose. I left it as it was ! Regarding sparse files and no zeroing: In Advanced options are only the following UI ExtrasDisk CacheWeb UIRun Program In none of the above I can see anything about sparse files and no zeroing ! Can you please help me a bit more ? Thank you !

ernaniaroldo
diskio.no_zero had value "true" by default and I left it as it wasdiskio.sparse_files had value "false" by default and I changed it to "true" as adviseddiskio.smart_sparse_files had value "true" by default and I left it as it was Generally I changed only "diskio.sparse_files" the rest were as you recommended by default. Please let me know if I did fine ! When I begin downloading a big torrent file I'll let you know if anything changed. I forgot to add that I get that Disc Overloaded error message in large files (larger than 5 GB) with many seeders ! I'm looking forward to your reply in case I did something wrong ! Thanks again! ernaniaroldo
Eventually the secret was in Preferences - Advanced - diskio.sparse_files - change the value to "true" (as advised). NOW I DON'T GET THE DISC OVERLOADED ERROR MESSAGE AT ALL !!! Can't find words to thank you !!!
