tigeraid
Hi... so I put together a new computer, with an AMD Athlon64 3200, 1 gig of PC3200 RAM, and a Maxtor 200 gig SATA and XP 64-bit.It runs pretty much fantastic, I'm loving the way HL2 plays for example, among other things. The problem is that there seems to be random little stutters in performance doing seemingly normal things. Everything from watching a movie clip to typing this message post, there's a moment every now and then where the system seems to stall while I'm still typing, then catches up a second later. Same with the videos, they just kind of freeze for a split second, then keep moving. I noticed that the HD light seems to flicker during these moments.But... It doesn't seem to happen when I close bittorrent. But on my older, significantly slower machine, this was never a problem, so I'm wondering if this is a problem with my new PC setup somewhere, or maybe utorrent doesn't like 64 bit Windows? Firon
Are you using the beta? And system stalls are usually a sign of your drive having problems reading data, or that the drive is heavily fragmented.Your memory use is normal, isn't it? tigeraid
Yes, memory use is good. I haven't defragged the drive yet, being brand new, maybe I'll try that tonight? And no, it's 1.5 build 437...
Ultima
Try the beta. The cache system has been greatly improved in it, and 100mbit up to 1gbit lines are handled well.

Switeck
Spyware, viruses, and ironically anti-virus software and software firewalls can also cause the occassional slowdowns.
tigeraid
Nope, that did the trick. Thanks!
