Tazzman Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 Hello, like most people on this forum, I too have problems with speed. My connection is a 10megabit download / 1megabit upload. This means i can download at roughly 1.1MB/s and upload at 110KB/s from what speed tests have told me. I rarely get the download up over 100KB/s when the upload is usually always maxed at my setting of 90KB/s. My router is a Linksys BEFSR41v4, I have Zonealarm, etc and all of the port forwarding is done properly. Im running off of Windows XPMC and my hardware should be more than enough. My current settings are the xx/1Mbit settings that uTorrent has. Any suggestions on how to increase the download?ThanksKyle If you need anything else, let me know.
Switeck Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 Zone Alarm may be holding you back...have you tried UNINSTALLING it to totally remove its effects from your download speeds?
Tazzman Posted March 6, 2007 Author Report Posted March 6, 2007 Yep, I completely uninstalled it - to test the speeds. I needed an updated version anyways. But uninstalling it had no effect on them. Any other thoughts?
kurahashi Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Is your upload stable? Did you try to reduce it a liitle? Other thought is maybe your router isn't able to maintain so many connections.
Ultima Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php#Modems_routers_that_are_known_to_have_problems_with_P2PIndeed, it is listed here as being problematic with too many connections :\
Tazzman Posted March 7, 2007 Author Report Posted March 7, 2007 So I should make Global connections 200, maximum number of connected peers per torrent 200 and number of upload slots per torrent 200?I dont think I've ever connected to more than 200 people at once, weather they be seeds or peers. Would this still make a difference?
Firon Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 God, no. Set global connections to less than 100 and leave your upload slots at 5 or 10.
Tazzman Posted March 8, 2007 Author Report Posted March 8, 2007 That should shoot me up to my maximum download provided the good hosts for the torrent?
Firon Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 Don't know, but it'll at least make your router not keel over and die.
Tazzman Posted March 8, 2007 Author Report Posted March 8, 2007 Lol, didnt know too many connections could do that to a router:p
Ultima Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 It does that to crappy routers. Like yours. And mine
Tazzman Posted March 8, 2007 Author Report Posted March 8, 2007 Haha, sweet deal. Ive been thinkin about goin to a wireless router anyways... If i had this "non crapy" router is it like.. way eaiser to max the download out?
Ultima Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 No, it's not that it makes it easier to max the download speed out. It makes it less likely for you to overload your connection, thereby making it much more difficult to choke your connection, which makes your connection, overall, better.
