Cherno83 Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 I've read through quite a few posts and cant understand which settings i should change to get better downloading speed. I use to use Azureus and it worked fine but I just felt like changing up my downloading program to something else and i was recommended this. So my settings are thisUpload Limit: 120 kB/sUpload Slot: 8Connection (per-torrent): 100Connection (Global): 750Max Active Torrents: 9Max Active Downloads: 8And when i did the speed test these were my results: Download: 9886 kbpsUpload: 1710 kbpsSo any recommendations on my settings?Oh yea if my computer stats are needed here:Manufacturer: Dell Computer CorporationProcessor: Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)Memory: 1022MB RAMHard Drive: 159 GBVideo Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6200Monitor: SONY SDM-HS75PSound Card: Sound Blaster Live! 24-bitSpeakers/Headphones: Keyboard: USB Root HubMouse: USB Root HubMouse Surface: Logitech G5Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254)This is the code I got from the speed test if I mentioned anything wrong with my data.
DreadWingKnight Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 http://utorrent.com/setup_guide.phpYou set your connection up fro 100mbit upload when you barely have 2mbit upload.
Cherno83 Posted June 3, 2007 Author Report Posted June 3, 2007 Ok yea i kinda just noticed that and i changed it to 2mbit. But i was wondering if there are any recommendations on what to set my halfopens and connect speed?? or anything else im not really sure. I'm using the default which is like halfopen: 8 and connect_speed: 20
Switeck Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 The default of halfopen: 8 and connect_speed: 20 is more than good enough for your connection *IF* you get the green light in µTorrent...and are actually getting incoming connections. If you get the yellow or red light all the time, which means you're almost certainly firewalled, you will want to resolve that problem...but if it's impossible to un-firewall µTorrent, then you might want to increase both halfopen and connect_speed to maybe 40 each.NOTE: You MUST patch Win XP Pro SP 2 using a 3rd party patch to handle half open connection rates over 10! AND Window's limit must be a bit higher than the value you use in µTorrent. So if you used 40 in µTorrent, Window's limit needs to be at least 50. Setting the value really high, like over 1000 is just begging for a disaster -- as either a virus/trojan/spyware will actually try to USE that limit, or windows will just glitch up on its own somehow.
Cherno83 Posted June 4, 2007 Author Report Posted June 4, 2007 Ok well I have a green light so no problems there. I'm just not too sure on the patching part.
DreadWingKnight Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 Set your half-open rate lower, then you don't have to patch.
