1.7.2 randomly crashes

Utorrent 1.7.2 randomly crashes on my computer, when I say crash it means that my computer hangs, mouse doesn't move, ctrl+alt+del doesn't work etc. I know it's because of Utorrent because it only happens when Utorrent is active. It's totally random, sometimes it works for hours, sometime it hangs in a matter of seconds, but it always hangs.

I'm using Utorrent for about a year now, and I don't have any problems, until recently when I upgraded my CPU from Athlon 64 3500 to Athlon X2 3800, the only change in my computer is my CPU, so I guess it must be something related to it, I format my hard and reinstall windows twice as I thought it may be windows or virus problem, I checked my computer with Bitdefender, NOD 32 and Kaspersky.

My Specs :

Athlon X2 3800

1 GB RAM Crucial

MB K7N Diamond MSI

in case needed : nVidia 7800 GT

Windows XP SP2

As I'm kinda new to error reporting, please tell me what should I do next.

Have you updated your chipset drivers? The X2 is known to be problematic at times.

yeah I do update my bios and chipset drivers, both for nVidia Nforce (MB) and AMD (CPU). Thanks for the response, but I still have the crashing problem, any other ideas ?

Get Process Explorer from sysinternals.com, run it, File > Save, then post the contents of the saved process list in the .txt file here.

Also, can you check the properties and stacks for µTorrent in Process Explorer to see what's hooked onto the process threads (and provide screenshots for these)?

Are there any crash dumps in %appdata%\uTorrent or the utorrent.exe directory?

No there aren't any crash dumps in either AppData or µtorrent directory.

The funny thing is my computer hangs seconds after I save this list, so if something appears and ruin my computer, it must be in there.

Can you try testing it when NOD32 is uninstalled from your computer to see if the problem persists?

I already tried that, I even turned my windows firewall off, but again µtorrent hangs, any other ideas ?

I'm experiencing the same problem with uTorrent v 1.7.2, it started just after i upgraded to this version. It randomly crashes, whether I'm downloading/uploading or just idling around with nothing to do... I also run NOD32. I'm running on a Win XP SP2 on hp laptop with a intel centrino duo core and 1GB RAM. If you need detailed information, please reply.

Just for double check, I uninstalled NOD32 and try again, my µtorrent again hangs, so I guess it isn't a NOD32 problem, please help, it's really getting on my nerves

I must echo ashkanmm and hfreire in that there are stability issues with 1.7.2. I have a stable, dedicated machine, with zero issues until upgrading to 1.7.2 yesterday. Since then, I have averaged one crash every three hours.

I tried Azureus, it crashes too, Flashget, it crashes too, BitTornado, the computer didn't crash but the program and internet connection hangs, there must be an answer to this, please, somebody, anybody, there must be a way, please, PLEASE

If the crashes happen in other applications, then it's NOT an issue with uTorrent and is instead an issue with something on your systems.

It IS a problem with µtorrent, because whenever µtorrent is active my computer hangs, you see, and even if there is a problem with my system, what about others ? are we have anything in common ? I don't think just saying it isn't a problem with µtorrent can fix the problem, can it ? And my system is the same in the past year, so why suddenly with the arrival of 1.7.2 the crashes begin ? maybe there is something meddling with my system files when I use 1.7.2.

I thought of that before, the funny thing is this crash problem happen mostly when I'm not using my computer, for example over night, so there won't be any over heating problem, but I check there is usually around 45 degrees when this happens, I tested my system to see if it get overheated, but it didn't overheat, I test with DiRT and Lost planet, playing for 5~6 hours, nothing happens, so I guess it isn't IT, thanks anyway.

I just got 1.7.2 today and installed it on my AMD X2 powered machine. It takes a whopping 5 mins maximum to crash if i play music simultaneously.

I registered here, after finding this thread on google, to tell you this is 100% without a doubt a problem with uTorrent and i don't think you will fix it without downgrading.

Your "proof" is inconclusive. The indications you gave do not conclusively say that uTorrent is the actual issue.

I am offering no proof. I just dropped by to let ashkanmm know his problem is with the app not his system.

I have had this system up for almost 250 days prior to 1.7.2 upgrade and suddenly it crashes every time without fail. Then its back to normal once i downgrade to 1.6.1. I don't need to run tests and publish results. It is blatantly obvious where the problem lies.

Your tests are a "because I said it does" reason.

It does NOT conclusively say that uTorrent itself is directly at fault.

1.7.2 = random crashes, unstable system

1.6.1 = no crashes, stable system.

Would you like a youtube video of me running each version and counting my uptime?

I am trying to help by sharing my experience and I advise ashkanmm to go for 1.6.1 as I'm sure it will solve his problem.
