ashkanmm
Utorrent 1.7.2 randomly crashes on my computer, when I say crash it means that my computer hangs, mouse doesn't move, ctrl+alt+del doesn't work etc. I know it's because of Utorrent because it only happens when Utorrent is active. It's totally random, sometimes it works for hours, sometime it hangs in a matter of seconds, but it always hangs.I'm using Utorrent for about a year now, and I don't have any problems, until recently when I upgraded my CPU from Athlon 64 3500 to Athlon X2 3800, the only change in my computer is my CPU, so I guess it must be something related to it, I format my hard and reinstall windows twice as I thought it may be windows or virus problem, I checked my computer with Bitdefender, NOD 32 and Kaspersky. My Specs :Athlon X2 38001 GB RAM CrucialMB K7N Diamond MSIin case needed : nVidia 7800 GTWindows XP SP2As I'm kinda new to error reporting, please tell me what should I do next.Thanks. Ultima
Have you updated your chipset drivers? The X2 is known to be problematic at times.
ashkanmm
yeah I do update my bios and chipset drivers, both for nVidia Nforce (MB) and AMD (CPU). Thanks for the response, but I still have the crashing problem, any other ideas ?
Ultima
Get Process Explorer from sysinternals.com, run it, File > Save, then post the contents of the saved process list in the .txt file here. Also, can you check the properties and stacks for µTorrent in Process Explorer to see what's hooked onto the process threads (and provide screenshots for these)? Are there any crash dumps in %appdata%\uTorrent or the utorrent.exe directory? ashkanmm
No there aren't any crash dumps in either AppData or µtorrent directory. As for Process Explorer this is my results :Process PID CPU Description Company NameSystem Idle Process 0 91.41 Interrupts n/a Hardware Interrupts DPCs n/a 1.56 Deferred Procedure Calls System 4 smss.exe 696 Windows NT Session Manager Microsoft Corporation csrss.exe 760 Client Server Runtime Process Microsoft Corporation winlogon.exe 788 Windows NT Logon Application Microsoft Corporation services.exe 832 2.34 Services and Controller app Microsoft Corporation svchost.exe 1012 Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Microsoft Corporation hprblog.exe 3072 Hewlett-Packard Product Assistant Hewlett-Packard Co. svchost.exe 1080 Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Microsoft Corporation svchost.exe 1212 Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Microsoft Corporation wscntfy.exe 2632 Windows Security Center Notification App Microsoft Corporation svchost.exe 1324 Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Microsoft Corporation svchost.exe 1368 Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Microsoft Corporation spoolsv.exe 1632 Spooler SubSystem App Microsoft Corporation BTNtService.exe 228 CTSVCCDA.EXE 232 Creative Service for CDROM Access Creative Technology Ltd mdm.exe 292 Machine Debug Manager Microsoft Corporation nod32krn.exe 324 NOD32 Kernel Service Eset nvsvc32.exe 436 NVIDIA Driver Helper Service, Version 94.24 NVIDIA Corporation StarWindServiceAE.exe 520 StarWind iSCSI Target (Alcohol Edition) Rocket Division Software svchost.exe 632 1.56 Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Microsoft Corporation alg.exe 1516 Application Layer Gateway Service Microsoft Corporation locator.exe 2868 Rpc Locator Microsoft Corporation svchost.exe 3120 Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Microsoft Corporation lsass.exe 844 0.78 LSA Shell (Export Version) Microsoft Corporationexplorer.exe 1852 Windows Explorer Microsoft Corporation rundll32.exe 1848 Run a DLL as an App Microsoft Corporation CTSysVol.exe 2104 CTSysVol.exe Creative Technology Ltd RecSche.EXE 2172 RecSche MFC Application hpwuSchd2.exe 2212 Hewlett-Packard Product Assistant Hewlett-Packard Co. nod32kui.exe 2388 NOD32 Control Center GUI Eset GrooveMonitor.exe 2408 GrooveMonitor Utility Microsoft Corporation rundll32.exe 2416 Run a DLL as an App Microsoft Corporation jusched.exe 2464 ctfmon.exe 2516 CTF Loader Microsoft Corporation BlueSoleil.exe 2544 Bluetooth Application IVT Corporation CoreCenter.exe 2596 FuzzyPWM MFC Application hpqtra08.exe 2696 HP Digital Imaging Monitor Hewlett-Packard Co. hpqste08.exe 2360 HP CUE Status Hewlett-Packard Co. Ultima
Can you try testing it when NOD32 is uninstalled from your computer to see if the problem persists?
ashkanmm
I already tried that, I even turned my windows firewall off, but again µtorrent hangs, any other ideas ?
hfreire
I'm experiencing the same problem with uTorrent v 1.7.2, it started just after i upgraded to this version. It randomly crashes, whether I'm downloading/uploading or just idling around with nothing to do... I also run NOD32. I'm running on a Win XP SP2 on hp laptop with a intel centrino duo core and 1GB RAM. If you need detailed information, please reply.
ashkanmm
Just for double check, I uninstalled NOD32 and try again, my µtorrent again hangs, so I guess it isn't a NOD32 problem, please help, it's really getting on my nerves
grok42eh
I must echo ashkanmm and hfreire in that there are stability issues with 1.7.2. I have a stable, dedicated machine, with zero issues until upgrading to 1.7.2 yesterday. Since then, I have averaged one crash every three hours. ashkanmm
ok then, we now see more users that get crashes lately.I tried Azureus, it crashes too, Flashget, it crashes too, BitTornado, the computer didn't crash but the program and internet connection hangs, there must be an answer to this, please, somebody, anybody, there must be a way, please, PLEASE
DreadWingKnight
If the crashes happen in other applications, then it's NOT an issue with uTorrent and is instead an issue with something on your systems.
ashkanmm
It IS a problem with µtorrent, because whenever µtorrent is active my computer hangs, you see, and even if there is a problem with my system, what about others ? are we have anything in common ? I don't think just saying it isn't a problem with µtorrent can fix the problem, can it ? And my system is the same in the past year, so why suddenly with the arrival of 1.7.2 the crashes begin ? maybe there is something meddling with my system files when I use 1.7.2. Switeck
Maybe your computer is overheating?
ashkanmm
I thought of that before, the funny thing is this crash problem happen mostly when I'm not using my computer, for example over night, so there won't be any over heating problem, but I check there is usually around 45 degrees when this happens, I tested my system to see if it get overheated, but it didn't overheat, I test with DiRT and Lost planet, playing for 5~6 hours, nothing happens, so I guess it isn't IT, thanks anyway. vinylthief
I just got 1.7.2 today and installed it on my AMD X2 powered machine. It takes a whopping 5 mins maximum to crash if i play music simultaneously.I registered here, after finding this thread on google, to tell you this is 100% without a doubt a problem with uTorrent and i don't think you will fix it without downgrading. DreadWingKnight
I registered here, after finding this thread on google, to tell you this is 100% without a doubt a problem with uTorrent and i don't think you will fix it without downgrading.Your "proof" is inconclusive. The indications you gave do not conclusively say that uTorrent is the actual issue.
vinylthief
I am offering no proof. I just dropped by to let ashkanmm know his problem is with the app not his system.I have had this system up for almost 250 days prior to 1.7.2 upgrade and suddenly it crashes every time without fail. Then its back to normal once i downgrade to 1.6.1. I don't need to run tests and publish results. It is blatantly obvious where the problem lies. DreadWingKnight
Your tests are a "because I said it does" reason. It does NOT conclusively say that uTorrent itself is directly at fault.
vinylthief
DreadWingKnight I have performed no tests, there is no need for me to. Its as simple as1.7.2 = random crashes, unstable system1.6.1 = no crashes, stable system.Would you like a youtube video of me running each version and counting my uptime?I am trying to help by sharing my experience and I advise ashkanmm to go for 1.6.1 as I'm sure it will solve his problem. DreadWingKnight
Your experience is unique to your system.Going back to old versions is not a cure-all.

DreadWingKnight
Unique to myself and ashkanmm. No, unique to you, because the two of you have NOT done the EXACT same things to the system in the EXACT same order on the EXACT same computer. You are an ass.I never claimed to be nice. But your attitude is no better.
