hofshi Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 Hi,eversince I upgraded to µtorrent 1.2.2, (A few hours ago), I don't have the network ok showing.I have 5 torrents that I am only seeding, But I did have network ok in v1.2.1.any ideas?thanks,Hofshi
1c3d0g Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 Hmm...did you uncheck "Randomize port each time µTorrent starts" (if you have port forwarded manually of course)? :|
hofshi Posted November 25, 2005 Author Report Posted November 25, 2005 "Randomize port" is unchecked, exactly as it was on v1.2.1.(I don't forward manually. I don't think I have a router, unless it is incorpotated into my ADSL modem).Anyway, I didn't have this problem before, and I didn't change any options since the upgrade.Might it be caused by the fact that none of my torrents are uploading at the moment?all of them have 0(0) peers.
ludde Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 Probably your firewall is blocking it.
hofshi Posted November 25, 2005 Author Report Posted November 25, 2005 µtorrent had all the permissions in my firewall, but just in case, I exited µtorrent , removed µtorrent from Z.A., restarted µtorrent, and gave all permissions back to µtorrent.I still don't get network ok, but if I do, I will update you.The DHT seems to be working fine (don't know if that's relevent or not)
hofshi Posted November 25, 2005 Author Report Posted November 25, 2005 p.s. @Ludde: this is an opertunity to say many thanks for a great application. I don't know how you did it, but hats of to you, and thank you.
1c3d0g Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 Yeah, and whether you have a Modem/Router/whatever is not important...you should still find a way to forward a port. Trust me, your downloads and uploads really fly once you have "Network OK".
hofshi Posted November 25, 2005 Author Report Posted November 25, 2005 They did before why did that change after an upgrade?I'm still using the same port as before.
1c3d0g Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 Well I know ZoneAlarm can be very picky sometimes, even denying access to Windows Update when M$ upgrades their system to the newest version. :/ But in your case I'm as confused as you are...
hofshi Posted November 25, 2005 Author Report Posted November 25, 2005 well if you have any idea that I can try, it will be greatly appreciated, cause I'm at lost here...Edit:BTW, in the status area of ZoneAlarm, It shows µtorrent as listening to the port I chose, so I'm not completely sure that it's a firewall issue.
Firon Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 You did make sure to allow all outgoing connections right? And UDP too.
1c3d0g Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 Does "Network OK" come back if you use 1.2.1? If so, then this probably indicates a minor incompatibility with your particular system and µTorrent...if it doesn't show "Network OK", then at least you know that the newer µTorrent is not the cause.
hofshi Posted November 25, 2005 Author Report Posted November 25, 2005 I'm using Z.A. pro. When Z.A. pro encounters an application that it has never encountered before (as it did after I removed µtorrent from its program list) it asks the user if the application should be allowed to access the internet, and whether it should be allowed to act as a server. To both questions I replied "yes".This is exactly the same procedure I've done for all the previous versions of µtorrent, and it always worked.I really can't think of anything I did differently this time, except that now it's the only time that I was ONLY seeding when upgrading w/o any active download.
Firon Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 Try running a torrent with a lot of peers (>100; download or upload), and let it run for a while.
hofshi Posted November 25, 2005 Author Report Posted November 25, 2005 you are the man.the minute I started to d/l openoffice.org v2.0 the "network ok" appeared, and it's d/l-ing at 125kbps.Thank you very much for you support!p.s. did I mention that I love this bittorrent client?
lxwong Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 So does that mean that uTorrent works very well under optimim conditions but fails miserably otherwise...............
Firon Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 No, it just means that you can't always get full speed on most torrents with ANY clients. Speeds problems are typically not µTorrent's fault, it's generally either a hardware issue, or someone with a crappy firewall / bad firewall settings / no ports forwarded.
lxwong Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 Sry I forgot to edit my earlier post as my uTorrent is showing Network OK in the status bar and is running fine. I cant understand why it refused to work for almost a week and only a few hours ago pulled its act together. I didnt change any settings so whats with uTorrent being so fickle.........
hofshi Posted November 26, 2005 Author Report Posted November 26, 2005 In no way did I say that µtorrent failled miserably. in fact I never got in Az speeds as high as I get in µtorrent.
amonrei Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 This happens to me too. It was ok before ... hmm .. i don't have software firewall. Just a modem router and i'm sure it's port forwarded properly already. The speed is quite ok though. Weird ...
chaosblade Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 I just think uTorrent doesnt display the "Network OK" message if you're only running very small swarms because it would be unreliable (dont quote me here, i could be wrong).
lxwong Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 I just think uTorrent doesnt display the "Network OK" message if you're only running very small swarms because it would be unreliable (dont quote me here, i could be wrong). On the contrary, I think u hit the nail on the head....So next time I'll just quote you......
slayers Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 After I upgraded to 1.2.2, enable UPnP port mapping got checked in uTorrent (when it wasn't). It has happened on other upgrades but not consistently. Upon reading these posts you might want to check it, it's the sort of thing that might be playing a part on all this.
