Wrong Reports On Announces (1.7.2)

Hello all,

Let me explain a tested bug for 1.7.2 release. It is giving wrong down and up reports to tracker. Most of other admins ( who are using a special edition tracker source ) have same problem with this version. Someone must to check test it.

Statistics from my last 2 tests:

Over µTorrent >>> 3.62 MB down | 112 KB up

Over tracker >>> 2.00 MB down | 112 KB up

Over µTorrent >>> 1.09 MB down | 1.04 MB up

Over tracker >>> 992.00 KB down | 512.00 KB up

1.6.1 is working g8! I cant find any problem with the old version.

So then , please let us know what is the issue with this version?

Those are scrape requests, not announce.

Sounds like you don't have a clue what you're doing.

Plus, download reporting behavior is different in 1.7 than before. Only completed pieces are reported (like Azureus), so download counts will almost always be different. And upload is reset each time you stop and start the torrent.

uTorrent's new announce system is not usefull for many private trackers. Why did you change it? Stop&Start is the reason of this problem? I have over 30K peers and they all bite me for referring utorrent

1.6.x is so well for private trackers , if not seems we are not going to support utorrent over the private trackers... so bad! we love it!

The main change to the announcing introduced in 1.7.x was that hashfailed pieces don't count toward the downloaded amount anymore in the announce, but Azureus has been doing it since 2.3.0.6 anyway (since before µTorrent ever even became really mainstream):

Private trackers , like us , counting everything over all peers activities... hashfailed pieces must be included on download amount cuz you know they are all downloading from another user.

We are Turkish tracker btw here i have friends from Germany , they told me most of private trackers banned utorrent after 1.7.x. I dont want to ban utorrent but there must be a solution for private trackers ? Everything must be counted without any hindrance...

Sorry, but we're not going to change it. It's beneficial to the user, and there's no argument that will change our mind (nor Azureus's).

1.8 will add the corrupted= key to tell you how much data was discarded, but you really shouldn't add it to a user's download count, as it wasn't good data and only punishes the user.

Firon , stop&start is giving less data information for download stats. This is not punishing user , this is punishing private trackers.

Seeders send 10 gigs , leechers get 10 gigs but less then that is counting ? Everthing must be counted , stop start is not the problem of trackers!

Shortly we have problem with utorrent clients after 1.7.x , not giving correct stats to tracker. I have tested it on many diffrent trackers ( with same source ). 1.6.1 is ok but 1.7.x not .

I don't think you understand what we're saying here.

Both µTorrent 1.7.x and Azureus (and az has been doing it for 2 years) only report good data that was downloaded. Any data that was discarded is not included in the download report. Additionally, µTorrent will not report incomplete pieces to avoid the download going backwards when there's a hashfail, so you'll notice that the download will go up in multiples of the piece size (+ the last piece)

You'll notice that when you actually FINISH the torrent, the download reported will be the total size of the torrent in both clients.

Now i have test another file with 5.42 GB ( 1.00 MB hash piece ).

I have downloaded 7.93 MB then i stop it and showing Pieces: 4462 x 1.00 MB ( have 4 ).

But nothing updated on tracker. It must show at least 4 MB ( 4 pieces ) ?

After 2nd time i start it , downloaded 5 pieces too and it is updated on tracker. But first 4 pieces was not added on this stats. It is only showing 5 MB ?

Last of all i stop it , 4 pieces missing on download report. Upload stat is ok.

Now i can understand the problem. If you close or stop it before counting the hash files it is not giving right stats? Thats what i need to learn.

Btw giving stats with completed hash files is not fair. Cuz imcompleted datas are not downloading from http/ftp servers. Seeders and leechers are all in same tracker with same ratio rules.

I guess if the piece hasn't been hashchecked yet it won't show it.

Anyway, the discrepancy is only temporary, because it'll eventually get reported (once the piece finishes).
