bobbytomorow Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 I have been using utorrent for around a year on many systems with no problems whatsoever. Tonight I did a clean install of windows xp pro on my rig, downloaded utorrent client and went to torrent(download) some apps. Every single one gives me the "access denied" message about 45 seconds into the download. I uninstalled utorrent, reinstalled utorrent, I have indexing disabled, I do not use google\msn desktop, I have my anti-virus disabled, i use winrar not winzip. I did everything on the faq and in this forum and nada. I have the latest utorrent btw. This is on a clean install, as in I just installed xp about 2 hours ago. I switched to bitcomet for now and its working fine but I prefer utorrent. Any help would be appreciated.
Ultima Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Get Process Explorer from sysinternals.com, run it, File > Save, then post the contents of the saved process list in the .txt file here.

mrlarge Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 As far as I can work out this happens for 2 reasons:1) If another app is trying to access the file (which might be apparent from the filemon log - all several thousand lines of it)2) uTorrent does not permission to write to a location.I don't understand why 2) should happen, as it never used to be a problem, but I solved my problem by reverting to the default location for uTorrent downloads (the uTorrent folder itself). It was not enough just to uncheck the "put new downloads in" box, as my previous user defined folder was still used, but I had to specify the uTorrent folder as the default download folder first. It's annoying, as I want to be able to save my downloads to my large partition, and not gum up space on my progs drive - I just have to move them when I'm done.I can't work out why this should be a problem - I'm using XP SP2 and I've not set any special security permissions on the drive I wanted to download to, but there's no arguing with the fact that reversion to the uTorrent folder as my download location solved the problem for me.
RAJT Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 I am new to uTorrent (Rev. 1.7.7) and have probably done somethng wrong, but I am also getting "Acces Denied". I have read the threads and do not think my precise situation has been covered.Windows Indexing, Nero Indexing, and my anti-virus program (SecurityShield 2008) are all OFF. Nor (as far as I can tell) do i have another app running that could be monitoring traffic.Regardless of the download setting, uTorrent always attempts to write to "D:\\Downloads\..." (note the double slash). I created a D: drive and Download path and made sure is was not read only - still "Access Denied".I'd appreciate any new suggestions.A HijackThis dump follows:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 12:34:51 AM, on 02-Feb-08Platform: Windows 2000 SP4 (WinNT 5.00.2195)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINNT\System32\smss.exeC:\WINNT\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINNT\system32\services.exeC:\WINNT\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINNT\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINNT\system32\acs.exeC:\WINNT\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINNT\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINNT\system32\ati2evxx.exeC:\Program Files\PCSecurityShield\The Shield Deluxe 2008\avp.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Compaq\COMPAQ~1\hibserv.exeC:\WINNT\system32\hidserv.exeC:\WINNT\system32\regsvc.exeC:\WINNT\system32\MSTask.exeC:\WINNT\System32\WBEM\WinMgmt.exeC:\WINNT\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINNT\Explorer.EXEC:\WINNT\system32\Atiptaxx.exeC:\WINNT\system32\PRPCUI.exeC:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPLpr.exeC:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exeC:\Program Files\Compaq\Hotkey Software\hkss.exeC:\WINNT\system32\PROMon.exeC:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\jusched.exeC:\Program Files\PCSecurityShield\The Shield Deluxe 2008\avp.exeC:\Program Files\D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G\AirPlus.exeC:\WINNT\system32\NMSSvc.exeC:\Program Files\Broderbund\Atomic Clock\Atomic Clock 6.0.exeC:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\1033\msoffice.exeC:\Program Files\uTorrent\uTorrent.exeC:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXEC:\WINNT\system32\mdm.exeC:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exeR0 - Firon Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 you have to use "set download location" on existing torrents or remove and re-add your torrents for them to use a new path.
jewelisheaven Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 Nero Scout is still running. Either set it to make an exception for your downloaded folder, uninstall that portion of your Nero Suite, or disable it from start -> run -> services.msc
