utorrent stop responding n the process cant b end

my utorrent stops functioning all of a sudden, it just get frozen i try to maximize but doesnt work, i close it but it only disappear from the icon, the process still, i try to end it from the taskmanager but it doesnt stop, not even ending the process tree.

when i close it n i try to restart it i get this message

the only way to get utorrent to work again is restarting my laptop.

as i was having problems i came to the forum n started reading n i found that it has happened to some ppl, i never tried to close utorrent when maximized so i did it today to see if i had the same problem as them n it happened as can b seen here

i tried installing this version of utorrent (1.7.5) cuz it said was stable, well i was having lately the same problem, with the previous version

always when i start utorrent it starts checking, even before when it was working fine, n i could shut it down n restart at my will.

i dnt understand what could change the way it behaves, i tried unchecking the confirmation when about to leave , as some one said in the forum but still the same,

i wonder if some one has found a solucion, or if some one could help me find a solucion.

im using windows vista premium, my laptop has a processor amd turion dualcore de 2.2 Ghz n i have 2 gigas of ram.

i would appreciate any help

Looks like this problem is experiencing a lot of people (me among them). After googling for several hours and posting questions at MS community mailing list I realized that the problem is not in some firewall/antivirus/etc program causing trouble or interfering (as a lot of people are thinking).

Utorrent is an application making lots of I/O operations, and maybe on exit it just doesn't close a handle it has opened in the first place?

Some feedback: If I launch Utorrent without any downloading/uploading (no torrents) then I can close it normally (the process it ended as it should). But as soon as some downloading/uploading activity has occured, when I exit Utorrent its process remains in the process list and is unkillable (only restart fixes it).

This behaviour has been reported on 8 different computers with completely different hardware and software installed, all Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate and Business).

... are you running x64 or multicore CPU. Setting affinity fixes the problem in the latter case.

I have a Core2 DUO (x86). Setting affinity doesn't help, I get an access denied message (tried with the Task Manager, then with Process Explorer).

It's been almost 11 hours since the utorrent process is hanging (I deliberately choosed to let it exist and see how things would evolve) and still no change... Weird...

By the way, I'm on Vista Home Premium, fresh (factory) install.

If you could post a HiJackThis log it may help with known problem / possible problem / extra conflicting software (just because it's new doesn't mean it's not broken )

Uninstall Zone Alarm. It's the cause. Also, we're on RC5 now.

Installed 1.8 RC5, same behaviour. Once a download has occured, the utorrent process cannot be closed.

Like I said, you have to uninstall Zone Alarm. Yes, it is Zone Alarm's fault. It prevents utorrent from finishing up i/o and so it locks in the kernel.
