utorrentfan2008
How do I stop Utorrent from checking a file? I have a 45 gig torrent I'm downloading and it'll take probably 3 hours to check the whole torrent for errors. And I've found that there seldom is any errors without checking. So how can I turn it off so Utorrent doesn't try to recheck the files?
DreadWingKnight
Fix whatever's preventing uTorrent from shutting down cleanly.
Ishkabidle
Is clicking on File, Exit preventing uTorrent from shutting down cleanly? Often I do that and every torrent goes through file checking when I restart it 5 minutes later, even without rebooting in between to possibly mess things up. What is the best way to get uTorrent to shut down cleanly?
DreadWingKnight
make sure that bt.graceful_shutdown is set to true and try again.
Firon
In case you're wondering why it's NOT on by default, is that it is possible for ut to never close, and we've yet to implement a dialog to force it to do so (instead of just ending the task). Guest
Thanks for the info Firon, that is good to know.utorrentfan2008, do you manually exit µTorrent or do you just let it quit automatically when you shut down Windows? The thing is that with a large torrent like that, µTorrent can take a while to do its shutdown processing and cleanup (which is why the CPU jumps to 100% and the disk thrashes when you exit µTorrent). However Windows only gives programs a small amount of time to exit before it times them out and forces them closed (kills them). If µTorrent's shutdown procedure is interrupted because µTorrent is forcibly killed due to a timeout so that Windows can continue shutting down, then it will think that something is wrong and recheck next it is run.As Ishkabidle suggested, try quitting with File->Exit before shutting down next time to see if it still happens.
