Utorrent freezing

Recommended Posts

Hi all i'm new to the forum but i have been using urorrent for awhile now. Now before i get started just wanted to let u know that i have read thru the FAQ and looked at the incompatible software list and didnt find my software listed. I have also read thru count post which thru using the search tool seems like my problem or clos to it. Sadly most of the post that had solutions that either didnt help( meaning i checked or tried it) or just didnt pertain to my system. The problem i am having that sometimes utorrent freezes. The lengh of time it freezes varys mostly it's like a sec or two but there has been cases of it freezing longer and actually whiting out( u know the screen goes completely white). The problem didnt start till after i installed sp2 and left my pc on for a couple of days with utorrent running. Now i have read post that say sp2 is not the cause or running utorrent overnight i'm just stated that honestly when i noticed the problem. I cant figure out what the problem is i just need to know is there something wrong with utorrent on my cpu , is IE , codecs or what u know...lol. Here is my system info:

Windows XP home Edition SP2

AMD Atholon XP 2000+ 1.67 HGz

384 MB of RAM

I have the cashe set to 175mb in utorrent(ive tried diff kinds of value here)

Panda Anti-virus & Firewall combo

Sierra Wireless Air Card 881u (no router)

I've read thru FAQ about the cashe turning the two options of under disk cashe if i though the disk was overloading( things that what it was called) so i turned them off to see if that was the prob but it seems to be still doing it. I have seen where Firon or Ultima has asked for threads and dll and i have seen where people made screen shots. If u need that info i honestly have never done either before so i have no idea how to get the info for threads and dont know how to take a screen shot. So if u could be kind enough and have the patience to tell me how to do it i'll gladly get the info for if i can. Thx for ur time.

p.s. why when i have upload limit to certain amount utorrent seems to disobey that amount given and use more?( ex: 20kB/s up is set but it surges past from a range of 24kB/s to 36kB/s)

Ok i'll try that jewelisheaven. Firon i did uninstall the firewall so far it seems to be ok but it's only been a few since i did it. I would like to keep the panda firewall if posible cause i believe it give a lil more protection then the windows so i'm also going to try jewel's idea...but jewel where would i fix that? The connection manager i am also wary of...

If you don't know what it does... I'm always of the mind to get rid of it. The only times this is not necessarily a good idea is with a brand new computer... if it came with alot of stuff preinstalled sometimes even the techs don't know what all that stuff is and if it's necessary. But the good thing is if you uninstall it all and your computer stops working.. it's brand-new ;P So the techs can fix it and then you ask them to uninstall all the bundled ad/crap-ware very nicely and I'm sure they'd do it for you. And since only morons would return a customer's computer in a non-working state you can try again.

I THINK HJT can fix broken LSP entries. . . otherwise you'll need to get lspfix

Well lets see i uninstalled panda firewall and it still freezes Firon. I used HJT to try and fix "O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'bmnet.dll' missing" thing and it said it couldnt fix it for some reason then i used Ispfix and delete the protcol handel for that 'bmnet.dll' and then i couldn't get on the net at all so i dunno maby the prob is with att connection manager?

If removing bmnet.dll made it so internet fails working at all... You may need to reboot. ::( It's been a while since I have actually had to remove mal/ad/bad-ware so I'm not sure. However since you don't know what it's supposed to do I'd check inside it, and in the folder or start menu for it to see if there is a manual or a website which explains what it does. Also if you think you'll need it it's wise to find the installer it came in or ANOTHER installer you can download if the problem doesn't go away with it uninstalled... in the event it provides an essential function you don't know how you'd live without. I'd personally get rid of ViewPoint, I doubt it's the problem, but i despise bundle-ware. O23 - Service: Bytemobile Web Configurator (bmwebcfg) - Bytemobile, Inc. - C:\WINDOWS\System32\bmwebcfg.exe <-- Do you recognize this? I usually am first to point out mal-placed SYSTEM32 or WINDOWS folder exe's :( I appear to have been sleeping at the wheel this time.

Hey jewel just now being able to get back with u. I finally figured out what to do after i uninstalled the bmnet.dll , I had to completely uninstall my aircard from device manager and then reinstall it again. As of now everything seems to be working ok but i've only had the machine running for about 10 mins after i did that and no probs yet. So hopefully after i give it i bit i can let u know how utorrent is doing. I still need to get rid of that bmwebcfg.exe. Add/remove programs said that program was used often so i am a bit wary of taking it out, well see. I'll do more research on it. Thx for all ur help. I'll give u and update later today.

Edit(for space purposes)Well i found out is that when i reinstalled my aircard bmnet.dll came back and the program is still freezing so i believe that the problem lies with AT&t Connection Manager or the stability of the air programing( .dll's or whatever).

Hmm interesting update :( And you need the AirCard software to run your internet?? Have you been able to keep your connection up without that ByteMobile configurator?? You know you can just turn that thing off with start->run->services.msc You can tell it to "stop" or stop then set it "disable" so it doesn't come back when you reboot. It doesn't involve any uninstall like with the device manager :) So you don't have to worry about that. It's really a pain this doesn't seem to be reported for the connection software ... and I never did understand how people needed certain software to connect to a pretty standard hardware interface.. but if your ISP tells you you need it then whose gonna argue right? :/ First thing I'd try with your new round of troubleshooting would be to see if that bytemobile being disabled stops the freezing. And if not, see if you can keep your internet without that Connection Manager running... or installed at all. You're doing a very methodical job and thanks for keeping updated here :D

Well Jewel thx for the complimnet and also thank you for ur support. Just to let u know i completely overhualed the system(upgraded) and it's still doing it. this is my system info now:

Windows XP home Edition SP2

Pentium 4 2.4GHz

1GB of RAM

I have the cashe set to 175mb in utorrent

Panda Anti-virus

Sierra Wireless Air Card 881u (no router)

And to answer ur first question yes, it's a usb card that comes with installation program already imbedded within it. So i can basiclly hook this up to any windows pc or laptop and it'll install itself. I have to have connection manager so far as i have tested to connect to the internet honestly not sure what what happen if i tured it off, didnt think i could exit it and still connect. When i tried to exit after i connected it said it would immediatly terminate my connection. I have turend of the Bytemoble configurator and i am still connected fine. As it would seem since i have turn that off honestly i havent had utorrent freeze on me it may pause for like 1 or 2 seconds( think that's normal) but other then that nothing major to report. It's only been 30 mins since i shut it so further watching may be needed. Thx again for all ur time.

Edit

Ok yep i knew i needed to watch the program longer it still does a major freeze but also what i ahve noticed it that connection manager sometimes loses signal or changes signal strength so i'm thinking that may be the cause of the freezing not 100 percent but i would that has something to do with it u think?

Edit

Well i called in to the AT&T syupport to see if i could open ports on the aircard cause i'm still getting a yellow triangle in the connect area meaning it's not ported right and found out that connection manager i had was an old one but have problems so i just now updated to the new connection manger and we'll see if this solves my freezing problem.

Edit

I went thru FAQ again and redid everything for Utorrent(like fresh install) and now everything seems to work fine. The only major thing that i changed was the number of connections but dunno if that was the problem or not. But it only freezes now when i double click the torrent or scrolling up looking thru the torrents on occasion.

Edit

Freezing like it used to again i'm about ready to just give up now. Works great with a fresh install but after runs for a while it still freezes up. Guess AT&T Communication Manger is the prob...dunno.
