BlueFireIce
I searched and did not find anything that helped, and the closest was the one a ways down titled "Strange audio error when uTorrent active..then PC slows down" but not really the same problem. If there is a topic about this that I missed please direct me.My old PC ran windows XP and never had any trouble with utorrent. My new PC is running Vista (not by choice). The problem is a bad audio skip and overall slow PC, utorrent was using 90-100% CPU. Nothing really new to me so I shut down Avast p2p which brought it down to 60-70%, I set affinity to just one with no effect. I went into utorrent and changed the global maximum number of connections to 200 which dropped CPU usage down to around 5%.However, the problem is still there, I still get the audio skips and overall slow performance. If I shut down utorrent everythings fine, music, videos, progs etc. I have also tried all my players such as WMP, RealPlayer, Classic, VLC etc. same effect. If you need any info such as HJT logs etc let me know.Any help or direction would be great. Thanks.
jewelisheaven
Well if you proceeded through Ultima's How-To for troubleshooting and found no success, that would be the next step DLL list from Process Explorer should explain the extra CPU, and Incompatible Software could be elucidated from HJT
BlueFireIce
But thats the thing, there is no extra CPU usage, if that was the case I could fix that on my own, as I did, since my last post utorrent slowly went down to a now average of 0.44. With over all CPU usage at just 5%. Its that there is nothing pointing to one thing or another.Process PID CPU Description Company NameSystem Idle Process 0 96.97 Interrupts n/a Hardware Interrupts DPCs n/a 0.76 Deferred Procedure Calls System 4 smss.exe 396 Windows Session Manager Microsoft Corporationcsrss.exe 536 Client Server Runtime Process Microsoft Corporationwininit.exe 580 Windows Start-Up Application Microsoft Corporation services.exe 624 0.76 Services and Controller app Microsoft Corporation svchost.exe 832 Host Process for Windows Services Microsoft Corporation svchost.exe 892 Host Process for Windows Services Microsoft Corporation svchost.exe 948 Host Process for Windows Services Microsoft Corporation audiodg.exe 1164 Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation Microsoft Corporation svchost.exe 1012 Host Process for Windows Services Microsoft Corporation WUDFHost.exe 1052 Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework Host Process Microsoft Corporation dwm.exe 2260 Desktop Window Manager Microsoft Corporation svchost.exe 1036 Host Process for Windows Services Microsoft Corporation taskeng.exe 1620 Task Scheduler Engine Microsoft Corporation taskeng.exe 2280 Task Scheduler Engine Microsoft Corporation SLsvc.exe 1192 Microsoft Software Licensing Service Microsoft Corporation svchost.exe 1232 Host Process for Windows Services Microsoft Corporation svchost.exe 1336 Host Process for Windows Services Microsoft Corporation aswUpdSv.exe 1428 avast! jewelisheaven
That's not the full P DLL list. You need to click utorrent.exe and enable DLL mode (Ctrl-D) You can edit the post above or post it below. As far as possible causes.. check to see if outpost has some "dns resolution" on peers it intercepts. Usual Avast services don't appear to be the problem, and you're not running much else. The DLL list should show something injected which shouldn't be. At least I hope so.What did you change the Preferences FROM to make it 200. CPU overload due to active connections definitely suggests firewall or security software centric around internet packets (avast mail or web scanner)... :/

I uninstalled it just to make sure and had the same problem. The active connections were set at 750 (same as on my old XP system). But yes some routers (running NAT or a firewall with SPI) can become slow or cause other problems when dealing with too many connections. However I have changed it back to 750 without any increase in CPU usage or other problems. I have also killed Avast with no effect.
l33twannabe
I'm having exactly the same problem and I'm 100% sure it's utorrent related. When it's not running, everything seems to be fine, but once I run it, after couple of days those strange skips in audio/video are starting to occur. To fix it, I have to reboot my pc or wait some longer time after utorrent is closed.I had that problem already with some older version of utorrent. I then thought it might had something to do with Vista, but now I'm using Windows 7 and the newest version of utorrent and those skips are still here.I hope you guys can fix it. It's really, really annoying.
