dormant volcano
Have got several torrents running at the same time. Most of them I can right click on and select 'open containing folder' and this completes ok. But on some others I get the error thrown up saying 'C:\Documents and Settings\*****\My Documents\My Music\*******\ does not exist or is not a directory. (**** are my substitutes b.t.w) True enough if I try to navigate to the selected folder it's not there! What am I doing wrong? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
Ultima
Have you tried stopping the torrent? Is the path for the folder longer than 255 characters? If so, select a download location closer to the drive root (like C:\Downloads\ or something).
dormant volcano
Stopping the torrent doesn't seem to affect it. Characters aren't more than 255, have 9 torrents running all of the same nomenclature with just numeration changes at the very end of the title - it's one of them in particular that's playing up which seems to point to the character lenght not being an issue as they are all basically the same
Ultima
If all the files in the subdirectory for the problematic torrent cause the path length to be too long, then they won't be able to get written to disk, and subsequently, µTorrent might not create the container directory. carlwinslow
i have the same problem, when i open the torrent file in utorrent and download it to my desktop for example, no folder gets created, ive downloaded a couple torrents no problem, now all of a sudden any file i try to download will give me this glitch
jewelisheaven
If the save-as path does not exist... it's not writing to disk due to some limitation, be it path or permissions.
carlwinslow
how do i fix that?
jewelisheaven
Well, if it's saving to my documents you likely don't have a permissions problem. Did you set the path through uT or manually when saving these torrents? If you go to Preferences Downloads "Put New Downloads In"... and click the browse button (... eliipses) does the folder open up there? Are all affected torrents in your "My Music" folder? Are you running some media indexer like WMP or iTunes which may be copying/moving your torent data to its "library"?
carlwinslow
ive been manually saving them to either my desktop, or the "my music" folder. im pretty sure its not an issue with files being moved, the issue is the folders are never created in the first place, they dont show up on the desktop and when i try to open the folder from utorrent is says it dosent exist
jewelisheaven
But it's not on the desktop, it's under my documents\my music. So you don't have a default folder saved in Prefernces? Try opening My documents\Downloads.
carlwinslow
wherever i specify they arent created for some reason, i checked my documents and there is no "downloads" folder
Firon
It probably IS a path length issue, really. Try saving that problematic torrent closer to the drive root.
carlwinslow
i just tried saving it directly to the C drive, still the same message telling me the path dosent exist, when i go to the C drive i can confirm the file was never createdkeep in mind this is with all of the several torrents from several different trackers ive tried, and that utorrent was working smoothly when i installed it and downloaded 3 torrents yesterday without a hitch, i havent changed any settings to my knowledge since then either
Firon
How long is the filename? And what is it?

Firon
And the files inside? If they're all too long, or contain certain invalid characters (not all of them are fixed properly in 1.7.7) it'll never get made.
carlwinslow
nope, the longest file name is maybe 5 characters longer than the one i mentioned, keep in mind this isnt one fussy torrent, its been every torrent ive tried, probably over a dozen at this pointwould you recommend a re-install?
jewelisheaven
all "reinstall" means is to clear settings.datIf you try setting the default download folder to your default folder (use the browse button)... what happens? Are any of the torrents smaller than http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/ ? If not run that, its only 120 MB
lonn
If the torrent is very big it should create a folder after it reaches 1%. at least it did for me. i was downloading NFS Most Wanted 2.24GB
