YouMiss Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 I have used a lot of BT client. I found that utorren is a light one. It has very small system usage and clean interfaces. But the biggest concern is that it doesn't support disk cache. I found that my disk is keeping read/write all the time. I am just a little worried about my disk. Nowadays, I think Bitcomet did a excellent job on disk protection, but it's banned by a lot of website. I am still sticking to the utorrent, but the disk cache problem always makes me sick. I wonder that is there any solution for this on later releases?Regards
DreadWingKnight Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 The disk cache used by uTorrent is built into the OS.Writes are supplementally cached by uTorrent. Reads are not.
YouMiss Posted December 29, 2005 Author Report Posted December 29, 2005 Ha, thanks for the information, but I hope that later utorrent releases can add the reads cache to fully protect the harddisk.
DreadWingKnight Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 If the Operating System isn't properly caching reads, it is at fault for the hard drive failure, not µTorrent. And if you had done a search you would find this is just me repeating what has already been said.
Firon Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 It has a write cache, and the OS has a read (and write) cache of several hundred megabytes, complete with read-aheads and whatnot. Please search before posting, there's more than a few threads about this.
