cool9 Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 My upload connections exceed this number in Preferences. I've had UL slots set to 4-5 (using Speed Guide for DSL) but I can get upload connections over 25-30 easy. What's the purpose of this parameter if it doesn't work right? Using XP SP2.
jewelisheaven Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Not upload CONNECTION, upload SLOTS (U in Peers tab, Flags column)
cool9 Posted June 21, 2008 Author Report Posted June 21, 2008 How many connections can a slot hold? And where is Flags column?
jewelisheaven Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 One slot is 1 peer you upload to simultaneously. Go to the Peers tab, look at "Flags". If you don't see it, right click on the column headers and click on Flags. http://utorrent.com/faq.php#What_do_all_those_flags_in_the_Flags_column_mean.3FGo through http://utorrent.com/setup_guide.php
Switeck Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Each peer or seed you connect to is 1 connection. You only upload to peers, and then typically only some of them at once. The "U" flag is next to the ones you're trying to upload to at a given moment...sometimes even they sit idle due to not replying fast enough.
cool9 Posted June 22, 2008 Author Report Posted June 22, 2008 So one slot does equal one connection. You're making things more complicated than they are.Like I said my connections, peers, etc. exceed the max slots/torrent in Preferences and I wondered why.
Ultima Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 Upload slots control how many peers µTorrent can upload to simultaneously. It does not equal the number of connections made.
Switeck Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 Just because you're CONNECTED to a Peer or Seed doesn't mean you're uploading or downloading to/from them at any given moment. Only while uploading to a Peer is that connection considered an upload slot.So you may be connected to 10 peers on a torrent but only uploading to 3 or 4 of them since upload slots per torrent is set to 4 by default.Which peer you're uploading to may slowly change based on whether they're uploading back to you...those that upload more to you get rewarded with more of your upload in return.
