Apprentice
Encrypted 1.8 will not be throttled, even if peers are older versions or other programs.1.7 would be throttled. I'm just (happily) curious.
Switeck
If we mentioned how it worked, hostile ISPs would find a way to break it.
jewelisheaven
...you can find out (sort of) by looking at azureus source. The bittorrent client developers are not in separate "camps" afaik. From responses here, the ISP workaround in 1.8 is sufficient for current generations of shaping hardware on a hit-or-miss % of users. (Read as: it works for some people but not others. It's still a good idea to limit your connections settings to a sub-default amount to see if you can sneak below automated detection and shaping methods. Remember this shaping is usually only on a statistically significant userbase.... put yourself in the 2 S-D range and you're no longer of-interest)
shearerc
UT 1.7x never got past my ISP's throttling. Then the UT/Azurues devs made some changes, as a result UT 1.8x managed to beat the throttling for some time.Recently my ISP caught up again, and UT 1.8x is useless again. Damn the cat and mouse game!
