Computer Guru Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 uTorrent 1.8 stable crashes each and every time I connect or disconnect to a VPN on Windows Vista x64.Crash logs: * ftp://neosmart.ath.cx/11742-utorrent.fed4.dmp* ftp://neosmart.ath.cx/11742-utorrent.e3b0.dmpFully reproducible on this end.
Computer Guru Posted August 11, 2008 Author Report Posted August 11, 2008 My logs show a lot of people have downloaded the files...
Ultima Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Well, it's working now... Definitely wasn't working yesterday when I tried the links.
Computer Guru Posted August 11, 2008 Author Report Posted August 11, 2008 Weird. Must have not been forwarding ports properly or something... Windows Vista has some oddities when it comes to the networking stack, IMHO.At any rate, if it winds up not working once more I'll stick it up somewhere more reliable.

Computer Guru Posted August 12, 2008 Author Report Posted August 12, 2008 Is it possible to prevent uTorrent from crashing when Vista craps its network stack?
Firon Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 So far we haven't really found a proper workaround for it (since we're not sure how to even trigger it).
Computer Guru Posted August 12, 2008 Author Report Posted August 12, 2008 Guess I have a good guinea pig setup here then, as far as the ability to re-create the problem goes.Best of luck with this, and thanks for your help
thelittlefire Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 Yeah the developers are very keen on trying to workaround crashing at the OS level if possible, unfortunately they don't seem to have exotic setups. I'm sure if you ask what they need they'll oblige Is this an ALWAYS occurrence? every time you do your connection?
Computer Guru Posted August 13, 2008 Author Report Posted August 13, 2008 EVERY time I connect to VPN or disconnect, every time my router turns off or turns back on.
thelittlefire Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 icky icky poo poo. That doesn't happen to be a virtualized disk does it? I know if the devs can reproduce the problem they're usually VERY quick to see what's up... most often it's the software, so that's harder. Perhaps something is special about your Vista which makes it do this.
Computer Guru Posted August 13, 2008 Author Report Posted August 13, 2008 Not really - I've just never had a single stable Vista install since before it came out - regardless of the hardware or the work it's put to use for (coding, mostly). But, no, not a virtual disk - sorry.
Photon Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 The problem occurs when i try to connect to my xp based download rig through remote desktop. The os crashes, and only way to get it back is by restarting. Version 1.77 works fine.
Firon Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 OS crash has nothing to do with this thread.
