DreadWingKnight Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 It's a flaw in selective/prioritizing downloading.More advanced priorities for selective downloading have been REJECTED FREQUENTLY before, so there won't be any changes.
DreadWingKnight Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 Because that's micromanaging of the swarm which causes long-term widespread harm.Selective downloading is beyond the scope of the protocol because of the fact that pieces cross files.Bittorrent was never designed to, nor was it intended to, handle files separately like that. The use of priorities in a widespread manner is what is causing the harm to swarms, not anything else.
DreadWingKnight Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 It's a flaw in the priorities at the concept level.By using priorities, you're causing piece distribution skews that could cause the torrent to lose its self-sustaining capabilities prematurely. I've seen far too many swarms die early because of selective/prioritized downloading.
Switeck Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 4th link in my signature.Selective Downloading is EXTREMELY HOSTILE to torrent swarms!
